there must be some good ones left, that i have not played. done and enjoyed the following

cod 4,5
crysis, warhead
hell's highway
battlefield 2, plus add ons

i don't have an amazing pc but it's good enough to play games from the last few years, what do people recomend?

If you liked Cod4&5, then CoD2 was also a fantastic game.

Painkiller, Doom3 and Quake4 can all be had for pennies nowadays, and are still decent enough mindless shooters

Have you played bioshock? Whilst not your typical shooter, it's a solid fps with an immersive atmosphere.

Quake 4 is definately worth a buy, although it doesnt have many active multiplayer players anymore.

Also get Counter Strike: Source, still widely played and a good game.

Prey is worth a couple of quid.
Dead Space is not a shooter but rather a very good survival horror (think Resident Evil in Space)
Far Cry 2 - a lot of hate but I like it
Call of Jurez - ditto
STALKER get the first one which has some very good mods

I am also in the position of wanting a fast paced shooter. I was going to get FEAR 2 but poor reviews have put me off. The only recent shooter I have not played is WAR but I hear it is very short and it is expensive to buy.

I didnt like it entirely because of its 3rd person camera angle. Hardly a FPS?

.. Monopoly isnt an action based 3rd person game? Doom 3 is first person.
