any cards out that do this yet? realised that when ATI say their core is HDCP ready that doesnt mean the manufacturers add this feature..

really ****** off that ive spent such a huge amount of money on an HD DVD Drive and lots of DVD's.

so i need a card that will let me play my recently bought dvd's

Cheapest card Ive seen is a :

"Sapphire RADEON X1300 256MB DDRII DVI HDCP HDTV out PCI-E"
at about £45inc

certain revisions (later iirc) of 7900GTX cards have proper HDCP support. Sadly my media center has one of the earlier ones.....

Look at the 7600 series too.

I know i have seen a fast stream of HD film releases come out on blueray over at other well known stores.

Edit yep just seen both formats on sale at my fav dvd and game etailer. I presume there protected otherwise we wouldnt need HDCP.

Your going to need a blu-ray or hd dvd drive to plays these discks, an ordinary domputer drive will not play them.

i think thats the point, we dont "need" HDCP at the moment, unless anyone has info otherwise? HDCP hasnt been implemented yet. How do you think the XBOX360 HDDVD rom works when the xbox360 doesnt have HDCP? (it simply hasnt been implemented yet) and isnt planned too for a couple of years, thus hdcp gfx card = :/

I don't pretend to know much about games consoles, but if the drive itself has the hdcp stuff built in and it is simply bridging through the Xbox and handshaking with the HDCP on the 'HD Ready' TV then the console itself wouldn't need to be HDCP compliant. Wouldn't make sense though as you would wonder why they wouldn't just do the same for PC-based drives. Ho hum....

"Vast majority of movie content creators decided to NOT use HDCP because it FORCES people to use HDMI or it makes the resolution just below 720p. Not everyone has a HDTV or display that supports HDMI and they probably don't want to buy a completely new HDTV just to get it. In fact, it seems like it won't be a issue to be worried about in the 360's lifespan even, as this Wikipedia quote from their HDCP article says: "Movie studios are apparently in agreement to not include the ICT flag on any HD DVDs or Blu-ray Discs until at least 2010, or possibly even 2012."

quoted from somewhere.

DVI is fully capable of HDCP too, just incase people reading this start to get confused. That snippet sound more like it is comparing component against HDMI regarding HDCP protection.

i know, im jus pointing out to the OP that he/she may not actually require a HDCP gfx card to watch HD-DVD/BR until 2010 by which time the gfx card would be obsolete anyhow!

but that isnt 100% for certain:)

The OP definitely won't need HDCP in the immediate future.
It will be many years before the studios start to enable the HDCP 'flag' that will downscale HD material on a non HDCP display.

You'll be absolutely fine with a non-HDCP card.
