Hi all

i currently have a BFG GTX280.

but its hot! i know they run hot but its so hot that if u touch any metal part of the card whilst running it feels like its burning the skin.

this means that is is raising the temp of every other component in the system.

can i A) fix this card so its not so damn hot.

or B) is there a card that can match the performance that wont be hovering the 80 degree mark the whole time i play?

thanks for any advise

Loki

^^this, and maybe wang your fan speed up using RivaTuner?

Also, an 80c graphics card is not dangerous in any way and unless your system is housed in a plastic box down the bottom of a mine will not heat your other components up enough to cause any problems :)

why would you want to touch it while it was running?

all decent graphics cards generate a lot of heat which will heat up your case.

to reduce this either get better airflow in your case, or go watercooled.

underload the card is going 80-82 degrees. this is playing lord of the rings online, and call of duty4.

as im typing this i have the side of the case off and the temps have fallen to 60's (as you would expect them to fall i guess)

the only reason i mention touching it while running was to make a point of the amount of heat its kicking out, i dont just routinely touch the components inside my case while i use the pc.

the case is a coolermaster cosmos, not sure how i would go about getting more airflow into the case (other than panal off) as it already has a shed load of fans as standard

It sounds fine to me mate; before my 280 died it would run DoW2 @ 82c. It's well within manufacturer spec and remember the card exhausts most heat out of the back of the case.

maybe i am getting too hung up on watching the temps on everest instead of ignoring it, could just be makin somthing out of nothing i guess...

Most high end cards will hit that region of heat without specialist cooling.

It's normal, if the rest of your system is overheating, get a better CPU cooler, or more case fans. ^_^
