just bought a load of stuff (basically a whole new comp except hdd)

foxconn mobo (dont remember model number but its socket 775 with intel 975x chipset)
e6600 2.4Ghz conroe
HIS/ATI 1900 xt iceq3
2gb corsair ddr2 pc6400 ram
seasonic m12 600w modular psu
thermaltake soprano case with dual 120mm fans (intake/exhaust) and a 92mm window fan (not fitted yet :o )

anyways my question is : which cooler do i get for my cpu cuz im not too keen on attempting overclocking with stock cooling

yea should be able to its had some decent results in custom pc its not the best overclocker but im not *hardcore* yet this is my first overclocking rig (please dont shout at me im a noobie to this) oh, and its got that foxone overclock program
ok now the truth....

i bought the foxconn mobo for following resons..

1: cheap

2:IDE x 2 so i can keep using my old hdd and not buy a new copy of windows or a new hdd

3:im cheap so sue me :(

fair enough, wasnt having a go. :).

I just havent seen any results with that mobo thats all. Just have to wait and see what options you have in the bios.

not too trusting in the heatpipe thingy....does it work? if so how? Now i know i'm new to this so laugh if you will....but...how can, for example Arctic Cooling Freezer 7, cool the CPU without the heatsink being attached directly to it.

The heatpipes are standard nowadays. They each contain a pressurised liquid. The liquid picks up heat at the base where the core is, evaporates and moves to the fins, and the heat moves out into the air. The liquid (gas) condenses and moves back down to pick up more heat.

It's the only way to cool modern processors really. The old style solid copper heatsinks are very poor in comparison. I replaced a thermaltake volcano 12 a while ago and there's a big difference.

I installed mine this weekend with a Scythe Ninja and its around 23 degrees at idle and 37 underload. Thats at stock.
Doesn't sound trustworthy, would have to be a cold room. Temp measurement is getting worse and worse on mobos :(

I love my Zalman Aero Flower 18degrees stock 26degrees full load and even cooler at a full spin ;).................HOWEVER I too do love the ARCTIC range of coolers and had the 64 pro for my AMD rig it was cheap, silent and done the job so if budget is tight I would recommend 100% it, custom pc still has em in their elite hardware list :D

What the hell man? Do you live in a fridge? Room temp would have to be about 15 to get that sort of idle temp.

im guessing arctic silver 5 is the best thermal compound? what kinda thermal interface comes with the ac freezer 7 pro?
The stuff which comes with it is very good apparently, there's not a lot of difference between it and silver. Unless you can order them together I probably wouldn't bother.

urm, are those temps at stock or at the 3.6ghz in your sig?

cheers i ordered some as5 anyways i got a budget pc to build from my old 2.8Ghz p4 for my m8 so it should come in hand if i have to re-seat anything

last question guys (i know, im noobie) on an IDE cable, could i set my hdd at master and my dvd rw drive at slave just to save some cabling? and only use up 1 IDE socket?

on the subject of room temps....DONT HEAT YOUR ROOM!!!! YOU ARE WASTING ENERGY!!!

ok my moment of madness is over.......

i read in pc format a while ago that the average pc pumps out enough heat to boil a litre of water every hour...so in theory (theirs, not mine) it should be able to keep your workspace if not your whole room toasty

I live in a big old school house with stone walls and as I have posted before it is downstairs in the very cold dining room but all my pc's heat it up. (I dont know where you live but in the UK its freezing and my folks dont like splashing the cash on heating till like december ;) ) ALSO why would I lie about something as stupid as my zalman Fan??? After repeatedly slagging off my overpriced mobo and saying I would have rather not went conroe (done jack for games frames) and also owning up to my x1900xtx not being able to overclock one bit.

They are my temps...fact. It could be I have a nice conroe or it could be the ARCTIC silver or it could be WOW that zalman is a decent cooler and I have good air flow (I mean I have a full tower honey combe mesh and fat 120mm fans) or a combo of all :D
