Need a good AP

Hey guys,

I have just upgraded to plusnet fibre and am now receiving great speeds on a wired connection (about 70Meg down and 11Meg up).

The only problem I am having is that the wireless is awful. Even stood next to the router I receive about 30Meg. I was looking into getting an AP but need some peoples opinions/advice.

Here are a few I was looking at:

TP-LINK TL-WA801ND
TP-LINK TL-WA830RE
Edimax EW-7415PDn
D-Link DAP-1360
DrayTek Vigor AP-700

Has anyone used/owned any of these? Any other alternatives?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks :)

From that list I'd pick the TL-WA801ND. It appears to have higher gain antennas than the rest, and it's cheap. In the £30ish range you've picked from I don't think you'll do much better.

If you could stretch your budget (quite significantly) you could look at replacing the entire router with a midrange Asus. You'd then have good performance and the option of 5GHz.

Probably the RT-N53 or RT-N56U without getting silly from a cost point-of-view. It really depends on how import the wireless side of things is in your situation.

My only wireless is a £20 TP-Link TL-WR702N stuck behind (and powered from) the TV. It covers a 3 bed house well enough for my needs (wife's laptop mainly). Almost everything else is wired, and my router doesn't support wireless at all.
