Hey guys, quick question; i need a cpu cooler for my E8400, atm it's running the stock fan because my arctic freezer 7 pro's clips have broken off and it doesn't fit into the motherboard holes anymore.

I need a cooler asap since my cpu is overclocked to 3.6ghz and using stock cooler isn't very ideal ( not to me anyway)

I was wondering if anyone can recommend me a cpu cooler that doesn't require you take out the motherboard, my budget is £30 max.

Would appreciate any input..

Lol, my tuniq stands quite solid and firm :) I generally use it to pull my mobo out of the case.

Tbh your not gonna get great quality unless you take your mobo out. Just take your time and concentrate.

Your quite right, but I'm morally against non backplate coolers.

Good to hear you went for the Fenrir though, 5 minutes of hassle = years of great cooling

Check your temps with the stock cooler - it might be a good idea to reduce your OC until you get a cooler sorted :)

Temps are running 52-60C atm which is ok i guess.
If taking out a motherboard was as simple as pressing a button then i would have gotten a cpu cooler with a backplate anyday but i honestly can't go through the strain of having to take out a motherboard again, it's too much for me.

I think i'll go for the sunbeam, hopefully it'll fit inside my Kandalf case...

I'm just like you but seriously, for the sake of 30 mins work tops, just do it... all you're going to have to do is plug PCI/e cards back in, mobo leads back in, reconnect SATA cables and power connectors...

Fenrir has a backplate? :(
More effort needed then, as i am gonna buy it.
But i'm taking the mobo out anyway cos i'm cleaning it all so no complaints from me :p

Get a can of air duster as well to get all the crap out while you're at it :)

EDIT: Can't see that for sale here for some reason - quite surprising.

Ok i been fiddling around with my old beat up Arctic Freezer for the past few minutes, and it got me thinking, will it be possible if i could replace the broken clips of the acrtic freezer with the intel stock cooler clips.

I was thinking if it's possible or if anyone had done that before..anyone??

Just take the dam mobo out! lol

You'll get more durability and performance.
Mobo's are also stronger than you may think, the amount of abuse mine has gone through is awesome :)

Yeah i have some canned air.. running out though :(

Should be possible, don't see why it should. If you do try it just make sure it's securely fastened or glued or whatever. Don't want the heatsink and fan to be falling off inside the case!
