need a good program to investigate websites and ip's

hi i would like to find a program that i can use to see where websites are located and more info like that, also something that can trace ip's if possible.

something that runs on mac osx preferred but windows if it has to be is ok

OSX already has what you're looking for, it's called 'traceroute' (and whois too I'd imagine).

The terminal for starters. IIRC there's a GUI version there too.
