Hi all

I need a new space 4X or rts game.

Ive played things like Galciv2 lately and some classics like Masters of Orion and Homeworld etc but feel i need a new game.

Ive not played Sins so this is an option but wondering if there are any other recomendations at the moment.

Cheers

I asked the same a few days ago and ended up playing Sword of the Stars 2. I'm having a blast with it as it is a much better game now than when it was released.

Imperium Galactica 2 was one of my all time favourite games unti i lost the disc :(

How much is Endless Space ?

Are there any deals on for it anywhere at the moment?

Will have a look at Sword of the Stars 2 as well cheers

Sword of the Stars I & II
Endless Space is about £22 on Steam, cheaper on GMG

If you're feeling completely suicidal/masochistic try Aurora

:p

There is also that new one on Steam... Legends of Pegasus or something? But it's not out for a few months, and its damn expensive!

Don't overlook Nexus:The Jupiter Incident. I thoroughly enjoyed when I played it.

It has a decent story as well.

It is only £2 on Steam as well. Bargain

I sound like a broken record but, Distant Worlds (with expansions) is the best 4x on the market, perhaps of all time.

The one thing holding it back is the high price.

Endless Space is a bit bland and lifeless, just check out user comments and you'll see. Nothing new or ground breaking, it doesn't hold a candle to the likes of GalCiv2, MOO2 and Distant Worlds.

Ok i ended up getting trinity in the sale :)

Should i start on the original, entrenchment or trinity?

Cheers

I bought it from steam at sale prices too and am pretty impressed. It's exactly what I was looking for being a homeworld 2 fan as the mechanics are very similar and you'll feel right at home having played homeworld, even the art direction isn't that far off. Though my only gripe when compared to homeworld is that it lacks a campaign mode but if you look past that it's a great substitute for the reclusive homeworld 3.

Just play trinity (diplomacy) it includes all the 'additions' and so is enhanced and the full experience. Also check out mods for the game as it has a decent modding community too. Look for something like the seven deadly sins mod and you might be interested in the star trek/star wars/battlestar galactica conversion mods.

distant worlds is pretty expensive hey?

That's the biggest problem with the game and the fact Matrix who distribute it won't drop the price at all.

It frustrates the fans because they want to see the game receive the praise it deserves but at the combined price they make it a premium niche product.

...and there's a fourth expansion coming!

I would still highly recommend it, if you're a true 4x fan you must play DW.

Yes it looks a bit old fashioned with it's 2D engine but it more than does the job and in certain ways it adds to the charm, and yes it has a steep learning curve but it draws you in once you figure it out.
