hey all
building a new gaming rig and need a very fast CPU than the 8700k pro , was thinking of an i9 extreme ,
ii will also need a motherboard
recommendations please
 
Those super expensive HEDT Intels are really mostly slower than Coffee Lake in games because of lower clocks.
And when games can actually use more cores there will be clearly faster CPUs out making them anyway bad for bang per buck even when looking longevity...
And unlike AMD Intel certainly won't allow upgrading clearly better CPU into old no matter how expensive motherboard.
 
unless you got deep pockets.... i9 14/16/18 core chips can clock to 4.5/6 Ghz... but your talking about having a 1300w PSU and games that take advantage of threads, or workloads like Pix4d that benifit from lots of intel cores over cheaper ryzen

pay the premium if youve got the cash for delid 8700k 5.2ghz unit if you must have the best .....
 
Is this thread serious or is the OP just trying to show off? It's universally acknowledged that the i7 8700k is the fastest gaming chip around.

Yeah for right now if all you want is to have good gaming performance then the 8700k is the best, and as above if you want to throw money around you can buy a delidded 5.2ghz one from here https://www.overclockers.co.uk/inte...e-socket-lga1151-processor-oem-cp-642-in.html

the high core count HEDT ones are great for doing other stuff as well as gaming, but they tend to be slightly slower at just gaming
