I guess the title almost says it all!
I've found myself in the tricky situation where I need to find a laptop for my mom (and to a much lesser extent my old man) that will also be occasionally used by my wife.
Yikes.
Neither of them are power users (although I'd find it both intensely weird and incredibly funny if my mom turned out to be a die-hard gamer) however, they're both into watching HD films (Period Dramas and Westerns for my folks!
) so an HDMI output to run to their Surround Sound system > HD TV and the capability to run 1080p mkv files smoothly would be a huge bonus. Unfortunately my mom's eyes aren't what they used to be so a big screen would also be extremely helpful (around 17" ideally). My folks don't have another computer and it wouldn't be used "on the go" so essentially it would be a replacement desktop, so size/weight/battery life isn't so much of an issue.
I could REALLY use some help figuring out what's best to go for as my life could be interesting if I get this wrong...

Budget-wise they're looking for something for £600 or under if possible, however, there might be a chance of hiking that up a little so if it's not being awkward if anyone could also recommend a suitable laptop for under £700 that would be great.
Please save my skin. Thank you.

Leigh.
