Hi guys.

I need your help in buying a laptop.

I have around £600 to spend on one. Any ideas which model i should go for? I want the best my money can buy. Goor ram, cpu and storage with good sized monitor on it. I do play games. I usually stick to AMD but open to suggestions. Ta

Acer Aspire 5024WLMi - LX.A4605.174
£700
AMD Turion ML34
512MB DDR SDRAM - Low cost double memory offer – call for details!
60GB Hard Drive
DVD Dual Layer Drive - To read DVDs and CDs and write CDs, DVD+, DVD- and large Dual Layer DVD
15.4" XGA Widescreen CrystalBrite TFT Screen
ATI Mobility X700 128MB dedicated graphics

£100 more, but at least it has a decent video card.

I bought a Gateway MX6635B from a well known high street office supplies superstore..

1.73ghz Centrino, 1gb Ram, 100gb HDD, Intel Xtreme 64mb graphics, widescreen tft (1280x800) dual layer dvd rw, wireless and wired networking, modem etc...

A real nice machine for £699

Since this is going to be gaming laptop I wouldn't go for Intel Extreme. It's not a bad card for RTS, but really soon as you want to play newer FPS it'll be unplayable. Soldier of Fortune II will be ok, but not Doom III.

Usually "business" type laptops like yours are better spec HD/CPU/Memory wise, since they have cheaper videocards. Nothing wrong with that if not doing gaming, ie Acer 164xis a great spec apart from the GFX. Need to go for 169x for better GFX. I would recommend ATI X700 128MB as a minimum. 7800GTX Go if you can afford it :-) Cheapest laptop with 7800GTX Go is around £1300.

Gateway no longer exist in the UK anyway.
