Hello,

Need to get hold of a laptop as my desktop takes up too much space, main uses will be photoshop and web design so I think a 17inch will be what I need, I also like gaming but will hopefully get a PS3 for that so as long as it can play trackmania, rollercoaster tycoon nothing cutting edge that would be good. Budget say 800 though less would be good. Any ideas as I know nothing about laptops. I also have a copy of Windows 7 so not vital it comes with an OS.

So then 3 choices.
1. PC Specialist for a custom build minus OS, can anyone spec that one for me around £800

2. Alienware M11x, is an 11 inch screen really good enough for using photoshop etc. Though at home I guess I could plug my 19inch monitor in for easier viewing.

3. Dell Studio 15, the £850 with core i7-720QM processor.

Which would be the best overall spec? I am confused by all the CPU options is an i7 better than a Pentium Dual Core ULV SU4100, the whole naming policy for laptop CPU's has me baffled.

If you r wanting a desktop replacement, then consider an i5 as a minimum, and i7 ideal.
get the fastest GPU you can.

I'm pretty happy with my 5650, but I already would like a little more grunt.

If you are considering a dell (I will get in before neoboy ;) ) and recommend dell outlet.
There are a few other threads that will help you decide though, search 'desktop replacement' in this section and you will get tons of opinions and info to help you along on what make/model.
Studio 1749 with 5650 is popular as is the studio15.

One downside of Studio 15s is the GPU, most of them have ATI4570 which is capable for light gaming and Source but is gets trashed by 5650. Some of your choices are on a peculiar side and you won't get much photoshop work done with 11inch screen. Also ignore anything with ULV or SU in its CPU name if you need power as those are designed for longer battery life and therefore perform accordingly. Dell Studio 17 certainly does seem to fit all your needs very nicely and as mentioned above if you go Dell Outlet you can land one for as little £500 with an i5.
