Need a laptop - which one?

Right I've held off getting an Apple laptop for as long as possible in the hope the IB CPUs and new laptops would be out.

Unfortunately due to needing it for work I've gotta get one soon. I was stuck between getting an Air and a Pro, hoping the new range would mean a high powered 15" Air and I would have gone for that.

My two choices really are the following;

Apple MacBook Air Laptop
- Intel Core i5 1.7GHz
- 4GB RAM + 256GB Flash
- 13.3" LED + NOOPT
- Webcam + Bluetooth 4.0
- Lion MacOS X 10.7
£1425~

Apple MacBook Pro Laptop
- Intel Core i7 2.2GHz
- 500GB HDD + 4GB RAM
- 15.4" LED + DVD±RW
- Webcam + BT + AMD HD6750M
- Mac OS X Lion
£1637~

Ideally I want an Air, with a 15" screen, 256GB HDD and a decent CPU - which doesn't exist at the moment.

Ideally I need to have one by Friday 11th May, and a total deadline of 28th May which I really don't think is enough time for the new ones to come out.

Chances are I'll keep this one for a few months and then buy the new one anyway so what will give me the best resale value after say a few months?

Opinions/advice etc....?

I would personally hold out for as long as I possibly could if I were in your shoes. Signs are suggesting the new Macbooks being released Late May/Early June.

However, if you had to choose between the two of them - It would depend on what you do for work etc. I would go with the Pro for the more hard drive space, but if you don't need that much space, the Macbook Airs are lightning fast :)

Really? I've been checking google every day for the latest news articles and it seems to be likely the following would happen;

End of April - IB CPU's come out
Middle of June - New Macbook ranges announced
Start of July - New Macbook ranges go on sale

Due to the fact only quad core CPU's have been released as far and Apple don't like to stagger releases (ie, all MB's released on same day).

256GB HDD is fine.

Edit: See here, looks like mid June announcement and late June/early July on sale.

Well the fact is no one really knows - and another fact is, it's still pretty much guaranteed to be released within the next few months - Close enough in my opinion to hold out for. But if you're really desperate for it, then go for the Macbook Air :) You could then, as you mentioned in the OP, sell it on and buy the latest ones if you wanted :)

Yeah, say I get the Air @ £1400~ now, in 3 months time, with a new Air and Pro out what could I expect as a resale value with it in perfect condition, all boxes etc...

Just take perfect care with it, and I shouldn't think you'll lose too much on it. If you bought it for £1400 and sold it two or three months down the line in perfect condition, I would guesstimate around £1000 - £1200. Maybe take a look at the likes of eBay or Gumtree for a more accurate price. Though I imagine the price will lower when the new ones hit the shelves.
