Hoping for someone to recommend me a laptop as I don't know much about laptop specs.

I am in need of a laptop for uni, it will be used for casual tasks such as note taking and assignments. I would also like it to run WoW casually, not exactly on hardcore settings. would prefer 1080p display if that is possible.

have around £550

thanks

You will struggle to get a 1080p screen at this price.

If you are only playing WOW then anything with a Intel HD 3000 graphics will do as long as you have the new gen 2 i5 or better in it. This means you could spend quite a lot less if you want.

I would consider a Dell XPS 15 as these start at £529 with i3 and decent nvidia GT525 graphics or best value for money comes with the Dell Vostro 3550 at the moment where £526 gets you a i5 and Ati 6630 graphics.

Any of the HP DV6 series with an Ati 4570/5470/6470 graphics in will do the job and if you shop around you can get something around the £400-£500 mark.

There is the Acer 5553g which can be had for just over £500 and includes 2 years warranty which is also a very good system with i5 equivalent spec.

if you need decent 4-6 hour battery life then consider an Acer 5745DG as this has a 9 cell and good spec coming in at £500ish

I like the sound of the Vostro, need to ask a few questions regarding where I buy from but not sure if i'm allowed;

Does only the Dell store sell them and can you get them on the outlet?

thanks for the response btw

Through Dell business directly is the only way you will get the Vostro. There is a Dell business outlet but this comes up more expensive than buying new at the moment due to some incentive offers.

so is it better for me to go with the i3 and nvidia gt525? will the i5/i3 make a difference? and i can't seem to find one for around £500 they are all coming to around £700 geuss i need to keep looking.

Yep, that price is for 1 year next business day warranty. For an extra £60 I would say going for 3 years onsite is a no brainer.

As a business customer you don't have the same rights under SOGA or EU leg as you would a home customer so if it goes wrong in year 2 or 3 it can be a bit more agro to get sorted without warranty.

This is one of the reasons the business systems can be cheaper as Dell don't have to factor in customer returns under DSR or SOGA into their margins. However as with most companies, they do have to provide more robust systems for business or corporate use.

Don't forget going through topcashback for 10% discount.

The 6630 should blitz WoW given it doesn't struggle too much in newer games. Notebookcheck.net shows it at 43fps on high detail. WoW is 6 years old.

It will run Black Ops on high detail at 40fps and Starcraft 2 on high at 37fps
