Found out in passing that for the very first time I'm going to be on my own completly for Boxing day and New Years

New Years Night doesn't really bother me - New Years Day does more so, mainly cause it's always felt the right way to start the year off sat in front of the fire at mum and dad's with family. except next year thats not going to be the case.

Same goes for Boxing Day :(

The kicker for me is, everyone I know has already made plans and as I'm in the sharp end of buying a house I can't really afford to pay to do something.

So it's looking like it's me, a few bottles of wine and computer games from boxing day till I go back to work, followed by a very empty New Years Day

Kinda feels like a kick in the sack.

Anyone got any advice that doesn't involve dropping everything and going some were to at least get through that period?

What's wrong with being on your own?

That sounds great to me! Assuming you're seeing friends/family over the rest of the time. A few days to unwind on your own can be relaxing.

I don't normally mind being on my own - heck I spend a lot of my time currently on my own.

But thats just it - I currently spend a lot of my time on my own - and Christmas / New year have always been about being with family for me and enjoying those times.

Now I haven't really got that to look forward to as much as I did before, it's sort of hit me that for the frist time over christmas in my entire life I have just 1 day with them.

There has to be at least one friend who is around who you can hang with?

Personally, I quite like time on my own but that is probably because I live with my other half.

Put it this way, you can eat, drink, watch, play whatever you want.

GG old chap, GG

Would love to have a few days off to myself and catch up on all the gaming and benching.

Buy yourself a game which requires heavy time investment. FA 4 or one of the other open world life waster games. It will be time to go back to work before you know it!

Order loads of Chinese food and have a martial arts movie marathon.

200,000 piece blue sky puzzle

The possibilities are endless!

Got any friends who work in catering or entertainment who might be after an extra pair of hands? If I had nothing better to do, I'd be looking to do some casual work at a decent rate.

Due to my firends all being so organised there isn't - there either working (Retail Jobs) or doing the family thing or away.

You could say I have it good - No one to tie me down, I go into work, get home, relax, maybe gym, or play absurd ammounts of online gaming (I normally clock in with around 1100-1500 games every 30 days in World of Tanks)

These few days away from gaming, with people around me are actually really nice and something I look forward to.

Not sure - I'll ask, I don't mind doing something to help out, did a soup run once on Boxing day before seeing family.

It sounds really weird that I am not looking forward to gtting this time to myself, but cause I am on my own so much - barring talking to the people I online game with - I actually enjoy being in work and those few family days.

Looking at it - I guess it's going to be Gym, and Game

a few years back, events conspired that meant I was alone on new years eve and new years day. I was dreading it, but I stocked up on the booze and nibbles and jumped on the pc - this was back in the days of Counter Strike on ½meg Ntl 'broadband' and I actually ended up having a ball.
no queues at the bar, no drunk mess weeing on your feet in the loos, no drunken mouthpiece in the kebab/chip shop looking to fight the world.
as a result of that I think I have only been out new years eve/day once or twice since. as I discovered I preferred to be parked in the house in front of the pc and load of wine/vodka/beer/whiskey!!! :p

This sounds like heaven to me OP. Having all those days off completely under the radar would be amazing.

I wish you all the best though, just try to be positive about it and do all the things you enjoy, treat yourself to nice food etc. You may not get the opportunity to do this again, so think of it like that! :)

Thanks Guys

Sounds daft - I get all this gaming time to myself every day, yet the few days I actively look forward to not being here and just chilling out get taken away and I feel like the rug's been pulled out from under me

I know the grass is always greener, but i'd love a couple of days to myself away from the wife and kids...

What about online gaming buddies? I often have more of a laugh with them than RL mates that aren't into gaming so much...

My thoughts exactly! As much as I love my family, a day or two completely to myself sounds like absolute bliss!

I'd be cooking myself steak and having a couple of beers whilst playing some games or catching up with some TV.

Maybe treat yourself to something else other than gaming that you've wanted to do but haven't gotten round to? Are there any movies or box sets that you wish you'd seen that you have never gotten round to that you could binge watch (Godfather trilogy, Band of Brothers or something like that)? Maybe build/paint a model aircraft?

I'm in the same boat so I've volunteered for the New Year's Eve shift with the Community First Responder group I am part of. Should be interesting!

All depends how you look at it.

In 5 years it will be a case of "Oh remember that year I had Boxing Day and New Year on my own" that was different. It will be a stand out year and one you remember.

I would go out for a walk, everywhere will be dead, I love going for a walk when there is nobody about like that. You could also volunteer somewhere or pop out for a pint in the local.
