Hi Peeps,

Just need a little help, hopefully someone with a similar system can help I finally got myself a good deal on a second card so I now have 2 x 6970 in crossfire, all super so far.

I checked using the PSU calc thing based on my system it said a 620w min power supply with a 660w recomended, i have a ANTEC Truepower 650w (the one that got lots of good reviews)

My System is the following

I5 750 (overclocked to 3.6) (have tried 4.0)
8gb Ram (2x4gb sticks)
P55a ud4 (gigabyte motherboard running 8x 8x)

Video Drivers 12.2preview + Caps (the new ones)

So in short do you think that system will bottleneck the crossfire?

Bit more detail below if that helps.

The reason i ask is on some games i'm only getting 50 - 60% only on both cards on a med - high settings, but if i ramp the settings up (ultra on most games) it goes up to 97 - 99%, but can cause poor frame rates or no real gain.

Example's

(Single screen 1920*1080)

Saints row 3rd (ulrta setting gpu's both high 90's) frame rate 35-45
(High to low settigns gpu's 50-60%) Frame rate 35-45
However it act's much the same way on eyefinity

(i play eyefinity) 5944*1080
BF3 (low settings gpus high 90's) Frame rate 65 - 75
(any single setting over that, gpus 65 - 75) Frame 50 -60

Single screen on (no aa) Ultra 85-90 (gpus high 90's), which is nice but once you play it on 3 screens its really hard to play on one

Not really tested much else been on mass effect 3 demo,

Any help would be great, or if you need any more info just ask

thank you,

Hi bit of an update,

The other issue happening was non repeatable results, i did not have time to type up yesterday (was at work),

In short

Heaven bench on standard 1080 setup, would give wildly diffirent results

example

run 1 86fps
run 2 81fps
run 3 74fps

It was jumping all over the place, with no real reason to why, so bit the bullet last night freash install, new 12.3rc + new cap drivers, so far

Problem solved

every run in Heaven 85Fps give or take a 0.1, so much better, also turning off aero gives you back about 3-4 fps also, sweet.

Just downloading some games to try out hope it helps with them,

Nice one

Sorry for the delay, been testing out few bits to make sure crossfire is working right.

Its seems the format did the trick, I have also upped the cpu to 3.8, just to give it some extra kick, but it would appear that the one game that ran like poo, (saints row 3),just runs like poo, now using the lost planet 2 profile on that game makes both GPU's run at 99-98 at about 45-50fps on high. On a single card it runs low 20's, so would seem to scale well.

Everything else seems to be fine, been enjoying Alan Wake in Eyefinity at the mo, what a game.

When I used to run Crossfire Heaven would give varying results. This was mostly due to one micro stutter ruining the overall min and avg FPS.

In the end I just got a single card.

I was having a similar thing, as i posted above, but once i did a clean install its been fine, it repeats results almost spot on each time very small margins or error.

I understand there are a number of pit falls with Crossfire, which in short a single card don't really throw at you, but once you iron out the issues which are normally down to the PC's setup its really good,

Spending £150 vs £400 with a bit of work has got to be better for the pocket, just happy i now have a better understanding and a fully working crossfire system. It's not for everyone clearly but a little bit of work by the user can save lots of money for the same or better results.

I want!!!!
You are going to make me spend lots of £££££ jock.
Will come round your house when I get time to have a look.

mate, your wife will kill you, so don't even put my name in that chat or she will kill me,

Other than that its bloody sweet, put some more pic's of alan wake up on steam so check them out bro.

Thanks bro, yeah really like it, don't think i could punt £400 on a 7970 so crossfire 6970's seemed a good idea. Few odd things to start, but now all sweet
