Ive just completed a build of an HTPC which has gone well thus far. But I have now hit a stumbling block. My gf has a Lucky Voice karaoke set (dont ask) that I am trying to hook up. The idea of this is that you watch the words come up on the screen, then you have a jack that goes from the PC headphone jack to the Lukcy Voice unit, and then another lead that goes from the unit to a Phono/Line in on an amp and to the speakers (as if it were a record deck or similar).

My issue is I am routing my HTPC through my amp using an HDMI lead for picture and sound. If I hook up the phono/line in to a different source input on my amp, I cannot select that input without losing the picture, which renders the exercise useless.

As a result Im wondering if I can get a sound card that will accept the phono/line in, and then take this sound, and send it out via HDMI back to the amp?

In terms of the sound broadcast by my PC, does it just simply send out any sound source that it is playing, so if I were playing music, watching a movie and had this Lucky Voice thing all playing at the same time, would I get a mish mash of all the sounds coming out?

Random question I know, but thoughts appreciated.

have you tried switching the output selection for sound, so instead of hdmi its using phono ?

If he switches sources he loses the picture. If I read it correctly.

I'm sure some creative cards have phono connections. However I don't think it would be on seperate channels and I think you would get a mish mash of audio.

Why does it have to go through the pc. Can't it just connect directly into the tv... does it not have it own GUI?

Sorry you lost me.

The Karaoke device has no GUI, its just a box that has various audio inputs and outputs.

My amp (Pioneer SC LX-83) doesnt have the ability to divorce HDMI picture and sound to that degree. You can do picture via HDMI, and audio from optical or co-ax, but this doesnt help me, as it wont do phono.

One solution would be to run the PC direct to TV rather than through the amp, and use an optical cable, but then I lose the benefit of HD audio, which somewhat defeats the purpose of the build.

I am wondering if I can replace the 3.5mm jack to phono lead, with a 3.5mm jack at either end, and then end the that would be going into amp via phono, would now go into the mic socket of the case via a 3.5mm jack? This would be a bit of a unique solution.
