If anyone has a spare moment and wouldn't mind i need a small logo (128x128pixels) for our team Wiki. All it needs to say is "GPT Wiki" and if you feel like adding any fancy effects/gradients etc go for it...! Current efforts include this:

logonewzj7.gif

Which i know is terrible! It has to be a GIF ideally and have a transparent background as there is an image behind it, the main problem i have is the text looks pants...but i don't seem to be able to make it look smooth in GIMP even though im using anti-aliasing etc!

Would it not be easier to use a PNG and copy it onto the image? It's pretty rough on the edges otherwise.

GIF followed by a PNG for comparing.

I have no idea what you mean. But...your image has a similar problem as the ones i produce, the borders! No matter what i do to try and make them smooth they are all jaggety on a transparent background.

Same thing has happened on the "Wiki" text (and the "GPT" text to a lesser extent) of your logo...many thanks for the attempt though :)

That's because of the GIF transparency. A GIF format is known to reduce the quality, so there's not much you can do unless you copy the PNG version over the image.

Rightio, i could try a PNG image...will just need to mess with some code. Can you produce a transparent PNG of the above? The GIF is transparent but the PNG shows a light blue background for me at the mo...

It's because you're using Internet Explorer 6, which causes PNG transparency to have a light blue background. If you were to use Firefox, or even Internet Explorer 7, it would be completely transparent.

Ahh i see, fairly typical that all the PC's on our network are IE6. Never mind, would you mind putting together a GIF without a transparent background, maybe just the same as before but with a light grey backdrop?

Its standard for the 4 billion dollar company i work for. I imagine many companies still use it too.

lah-dee-dah. I don't care how much your company's worth, I bet you can't think of a good reason that they are using it - other than it'd take a bit of time to deploy updates. I'm not a support person, but I know that it's not THAT huge a job to upgrade.

According to a well know stats website I checked, sadly a staggering 32% of people still use IE6 online, Ie7 only 21.2%... So 50% of market share from MS :(

FF is catching with its 37% though :D

I work in support for the NHS, as such all our PC's have to be running IE6 due to compatibility issues with the national Choose and Book service and IE7. When those issues are resolved i'm sure we'll upgrade to IE7.

Would anyone else like to contribute a design or two to add some choice? Doesn't have to be transparent anymore!
