Hi guys

Been away from pc gaming for a while(20 years lol). I got myself a rig which will arrive friday, with radeon rx 56 vega graphic card

Everything else is sorted out apart from the monitor, i want one with 140hz refresh rate and 2560*1440

Something that does not break the bank ;)

Regards

I'm in the same boat, looking to upgrade my monitor aswell as a four figure some for a new rig. I haven't got much if any money to spend on one, yet it seems a worthwhile investment. I've got £300, give or take a tenner. People's thoughts on the best way to go?

Indeed, just paid for hefty money for the rig and now everything else. Didn't do the research for the monitor thinking that its actually cheap. Then i found out about freesync and 144h and all the other things later on

Well I'm looking at g sync as I've chosen a 1070ti. There not only rare, but their an arm and a leg. £300 won't come near. Figure if I get a 27" ish single screen, I can get an array of features, 144MHz and all that jazz, and hope my nvidia card can put it on the screen without f'in it up. Here's hoping that's possible for 300 notes! Heh

We never had freesync and gsync before so here's hoping we don't really need it now (someone will shoot me down for that thought! Heh)

true, it was just a monitor, CRT at the time :)
then came laptop and from there i jumped to MacBook. Now they are making things complicated.

Acer 27" FreeSync Full HD Monitor with DP/HDMI XF270Hbmjdprz

im going for this one, seems to have decent specs although its only 1080p but free sync and 144hz refresh rate

Yea well compromise is the name of the game when you only have £300 or there abouts to play with. How much is that monitor your looking at? It's 144MHz which frees up your gpu to do it's thang from what little I've learned on the subject (I don't know that to be so for the record. Forum edit accordingly as I'm sure y'all will). It's freesync aswell which ticks another box with the vega your buying. How much?

its about it 270 from scan, to be honest now im thinking about stretching the budget and get the 2560*1440 with free sync and 144hz. for another £110 but at least i won't need an upgrade for awhile.

Typically, (like as true for the past half dozen things I've just bought hardware wise!) chucking the extra few quid into the superior unit is probably money well spent. If all is to be believed it's just gonna look better innit! Something you want when you've just forked out x amount of hundreds on an upgrade. If your in my shoes then I imagine you've had a new MB, new chip, new ddr4... the list goes on. God only knows what you decided to do about a storage solution? Some of the options left you with little change out of a grand! Heh.

Anyway yea, if you can find the extra it sounds like money well spent. Pretty graphics and all that lol!

It's a little out of date but the basics still stand true. Seems there are benefits to the guy sat 18inches away from the screen like we do often as gamers, but for other applications, like film viewing etc, its food for thought. Three years on and prices have fell in a marked way, but it's still a good read.

Dell S2716DG.

Can be found for around £500 if you shop around.

Yes, it's over budget, but if you're investing in a gaming rig you'll want a monitor which reflects the performance of the hardware.

I got one and can't recommend it enough (also have a 1070TI)

It's a TN screen. Surely if your forking out £500+ you want an IPS screen. :)

Being completely honest, its extremely close to an IPS level of colour depth - i've calibrated it with a datacolor spyder and it's exceptional.

I also play mainly fast paced FPS games, so response time and zero ghosting is massively important to me. Having Gsync is also a massive benefit.

Go and have a look at one if you can - I categorically guarantee you will impressed.

Hmmm, I'll plead the 5th for now then, and have a look to see. It's on a long list of 'things I need for my upgrade', so I need to look into it sooner rather than later.

Can survive on what I have for now though. I just don't have a spare £500 lying around! Heh.

For the sake of your own sanity, find it. I was blown away, especially coming from running a 24 inch Gsync monitor at 1080p

It's gonna have to be done, I simply cant afford a new monitor ATM. There all a bit up in the aswell though ATM, so it might be worth my while waiting till March, April before I treat myself to one. Hopefully prices will move a little aswell as new monitors enter the field, so I might have to spend less. Shall see.
