Get the i7 2600k if it's worth it financially. Clock it up with a good cooler and he'll see a good performance boost especially with SLI.
 
for gaming the 2500k is on par with the other 2. Not much in them in my opinion.

the 3570k runs a fair bit hotter than the first SB chips too
 
How cheap is cheap though? If it's not the K versions that he can overclock or he has a motherboard that won't allow overclocking then it's a waste of time.

only reason i told him to get the newer 3570k is because his board as pci-e 3 slots and the 3570k would add the better option for new cards one day, but as you both say for sandy i think that what i will tell him to do.
 
That's a good price on the 2500K, the 2600K is a tad overpriced as they go for around £115 in our Members Market on here. It's a pity you don't have access yet as 3570K's go for around £90. The board's a good one so he should get to at least 4.5ghz with the 2500K/2600K with a decent cooler.
