Hi everyone,

I have been looking for a new computer for a while now and since the CPU on my old one has decided to give up the ghost I thought I would come here to overclockers to get a top end Gaming PC at a very reasonable price.

I have been looking at the Ultima Hydrophobia in the Pro Gamer section. Any suggestions on other systems or what upgrades I should make to the Ultima Hydrophobia for example: Solid state HDD.

I have also been wondering that since I am a student and can purchase windows 7 for around £15 whether I should buy the System with or without an operating system. However I can see the advantages in purchasing the system with an OS because all the drivers will already be installed and setup ready for use as soon as it arrives.

I was also wondering whether have the OS pre installed would slow the time for delivery

Thank-you in advance

Chris

I would much rather have a pre built PC because im scared that if i build it myself i will **** it up. I mean i have performed maintenance on PC systems before but never build a PC before

okay that sounds great. I might wait a little while for that though. Seening as the system is watercooled will it need a lot of maintenaince.

Also are SSD's all they are cracked up to be?

What do you think of this pre-built for £1214

System Specification
- Case: Lancool Dragon-Lord PC-K62 Mid Tower - Red Dragon Windowed Edition
- Power Supply: OCZ StealthXStream II 600W
- CPU: Intel Core i7 930 2.80GHz overclocked to 4.20GHz
- Motherboard: Asus Rampage Extreme II (Socket 1366) DDR3 Motherboard
- Cooler: Prolimatech Megahalems CPU Cooler w/ Sharkoon Silent Eagle 2000RPM 120mm Fan
- RAM: Corsair XMS3 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Triple Channel Kit
- Hard Drive: Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 500GB SATA-II 16MB Cache <=== You would be better of changing that for a 1TB SAMSUNG F3 HDD. Link: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HD-082-SA
- Graphics Card: OCUK Value gtx470 1280mb
- Sound: High Definition 7.1 Onboard Sound Card
- Optical Drive: 22x DVD+RW SATA Dual Layer ReWriter
- Solid State Drive: Intel x25-Value 40gb, For about £12-15 more, ideally this would be much better http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HD-053-OC&groupid=701&catid=14&subcat=910 as it has very high read/write speeds.

And of course as with any of the systems, if there is something you want to change, but is not possible to do online just give their shop a ring and they will be happy to change a pre-built system to your liking.

SSD's are well worth the price for there sheer silence, booting an os from it is so quick that you couldnt even blink before it loads

(slight exaguration)

Back to my earlier question.
Do watercooled systems require a lot of maintenance.

PraxxtorCruel what is the average temp of the CPU during normal day to day operations.

Thanks

You're looking at doing this for watercooling haha :D

Drain
Dismantle Loop
Clean radiators and fans
Rinse the reservoir (where applicable)
Clean the pump (dismantle if possible)
Open blocks and clean
Re-assemble blocks
Replace tubing where desired
Re-install loop
Leak test (if desired)
Re-fill

About the temperatures, no idea, as I don't own one, but I'm guessing around 35 at idle and at a little heavier use maybe around 50-55c?

Titan Onyx is on this week only, very good pc and combined with a 5870/GTX470 aswell a 40gb SSD it would be really really good.

You could forget the SSD and get a GTX480 with it.(just add a SSD later when you got more cash again and perhaps go for a 80gb+ model.)

Also you could even call them and tell them to change the case if you wish to a http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-196-CM&groupid=701&catid=7&subcat=29 or something but the case supplied with it is pretty much fine.

would i void my warrentee if i put my old hard drive in after delivery

also does the GTX 470 / 480 come with a mini HDMI cable or is that pruchase seperate

i think i may have found the PC which is just right for me
as suggested by Sycho i am looking at the Titan Oynax
with Windows 7 Home Premium (i don't see the need for ultimate to be honist)
Intel X-25-V Value 40Gb SSD
ATI Radeon HD 5870. (This is because i have done some research and on the whole this seems to be a better graphics card that the Nvidia GTX 470.

Thank you all.

But sill the question remains. If i put my current HDD in there will it void my warentee

SSD drives are the dogs but you will fill 40gig pretty quick with the OS and game installs. So fitting an extra drive is going to be needed eventually.

You could opt to buy a WD Raptor drive (spin at 10,000rpm rather than 7,200). A 74GB will be around £60 or the 150GB is a lil over £100. This will improve OS and game performance and give you more room to play with then you can format the supplied 500GB sata for extra storage.

On the warranty front i'd email and ask but i doubt it will be an issue. Sometimes there is a seal on the side of the case (sticker usually) on store bought systems. Now if this was heated "accidently" by a hairdryer it would peel away easily and could be easily replaced again ;)

Enjoy your new system, these guys supply some great stuff!
