Hi all,

My battery on my 52 plate Civic Type-R (EP3) is dead and I need to buy another one ASAP. I was wondering if people recommend any particular ones for this car?

I don't have much money, but don't want to buy anything too dire.

I was reading about this and some people were saying they have bought batteries where the terminals were the wrong way round, so I want to avoid this.

I was thinking possibly from eurocarpats or carparts4less, or even halfords if they aren't too much of a rip off.

There are a crazy amount of batteries about so any advice would be great thanks :)

Cheers,

G

The battery isn't priced terribly from Honda iirc - £60ish

Otherwise you can buy the right bosch battery from Eurocarparts, just watch that you get the right variant as like you say it's easy to buy one with the poles at the incorrect side. I bought one and it became a pain on the FN2 when changing bulbs as I had relocated the cables right in the space where my hand wanted to go.

Might not be an issue on the EP3, can't remember where the battery sits

Awesome thanks :)

Halfords wanted £75 as did Honda, £95 fitted. Thinking the one I linked looks the best bet so far.

I'd get the Bosch S4 one for £53. With CP5LESS, you'll get it for £48 delivered which is pretty good.

Forget paying someone £20 to fit a battery. Just do it yourself in 10 minutes.

Thanks :)

Is there a reason for Bosch over Duracell?

Cheers,

G

Nope, I guess not. I just know that every Bosch product I've had has always been of a high quality and every manufacturer uses Bosch for a very large proportion of their parts.

Not that Duracell don't know a thing or two about batteries though :p

Whereas my experience of Bosch is total opposite, poor quality, most bosch parts go faulty on cars, they make injectors out of cheese and weak electrical parts, their appliances last around a year before they go bust, would never touch one again. Varta is a better brand if your buying from ECP, if they still sell em.

I did laugh at the above but i really wanted to pick this bit out:

Given the amount of Bosch parts fitted to the vast amount of cars in the UK why don't i see piles and piles of cars sat at the side of the road broken down on a daily basis?

Why don't you go to a garage or a dealer and see the "piles and piles" of cars being fixed of their Bosch fuel and injetcion parts and being repaired under warranty.

So that somehow constitutes most Bosch parts on cars?

Looking at the boat load of Bosch sensors all over all the German stuff I've owned i'd say that the fuel system makes up way less than half of the Bosch sensors.

The fuel system was just one example, one that I've seen endless times.

They simply aren't the same company they were a long time ago, same with a lot of other companies to be fair.

Nipped out at lunch and bought the Bosch S4 for £52.19

Wanted to get it immediately from somewhere I could walk back into if I had any issues (like me chosing the wrong one).

Now to fit it... reading online it says to disconnect it for an hour in between, but in the same thread someone referred to that as a "new wives tale" and unneccessary.

Not sure I see the point in that, but if anyone knows if that's right or wrong I'd like to know :)

Cheers,

G

Wait an hour, what for? A wives tale to wander past?

No idea if there is an official process but I first loosened the battery so it was free, then disconnected the positive, then earth. Removed battery, plopped in the new and did the reverse to fit it. Make sure you don't go overboard when clamping the battery back in place also.
