Hi all and a happy new year to you all,

Right January is is here now and i have got the big £1000 to spend on a new PC.
Have not had a new one for about 3 years now.

It will be used as a gaming pc mostly.

i don't need a case or cd rom or monitor or keyboard or mouse.

any help would be appreciated as i just don't know what hardware to have.

Thanks.

OH and don't look at the spec in the sig below as that is my works pc.

Will you be overclocking?

Can your case accept the large, tower-style CPU coolers common today? I'll assume your optical drive is PATA (IDE).

What size is your monitor?

With a budget like that it might be worth waiting for Penryn to drop.

Not that I think it's necessary or even a good idea, you do have room in your budget for two G92 GTSes.

To do it justice, though, you'd want a 24"+ screen.

If it helps, the nvidia 7 series chipset seems overly expensive, packed with features that no-one needs and currently unavailable. Whereas the P35 chipset is cheaper, has bedded in, and there are loads to choose from. Tough choice I know...

I have just bought a Asus P5K for a build I am doing, so you could try that? At least I am putting my money where my mouth is :)

The hassle, wait for the patch so the game supports your sli setup.

You might as well sell the card you have on the bay, and get a better card. It will cost less and be faster than 2 cards.

A case in point. I have an 8800 GTS 640MB. I have just bought a G92 8800 GT. I will then sell the GTS, and the total cost will be less than getting another GTS, and the fps will be better in a lot of games than the equivilent 2 x GTS setup. Plus when I come to sell, I won't have 2 x ancient GTS cards to sell, I'll have a recent 8800 GT.
