I have an old 20.5MP IXUS 185 at the moment, if I leave you a few cropped pics, the light picture was when the camera was fiirst purchased and the second is now.
Both crops are at max zoom 40mm both around 10/15ft distance, that noise I just can't have, it spoils every snap. So it has been Suggested that I look at the Sony RX 100 range. I'm a point and click type of person but have been known to fiddle with the buttons. Thoughts Please.

I worry about buying second hand, at this point £500 will get me an RX100 VII but then I question myself and ask how much better is a Sony 20MP 1 inch Sensor going to be vs a Cannon 20MP 1 inch. I did look at some review sites and I see the same thing as above although not quite as bad (I crop a lot) on what was rated as the best 1 which was the IV in the older range with the VII looking much better. Most smart phones these days are hitting 50MP so should I wait a little longer before pulling the trigger on a camera. Or is my MP expectation just not a valid point ?
