Hi, my 60 plate Mazda is now starting on 3 cylinders and i thing I'm seeing a bit if blue smoke on acceleration...

I'm thinking its flogging a dead horse to get it looked at and fixed.. plus.. i fancy newer

I'm WFH nowadays so the car currently gets about 4 miles use a day and an occasional longer run.. When i got it i was working mobile (its my ex works car)

What do you recommend for light usage at around the £10k mark? Is there anything in the EV market that's worth a look?

We have a 2nd car (fiesta) if we need to travel any distance

You could get yourself a 2019 Renault Zoe if you’re willing to do the battery lease. Otherwise you could try a KIA Soul EV which I quite like - as long as you don’t need mega range.

Could look at a BMW i3..

many will say high mileage EVs can be a nightmare, but I like the i3, maybe only 70-100 miles range, but nippy, fun, and honestly driving one on holiday is what convinced me EVs are the most relaxing way to drive, and cheap to run!

e.g. https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202305257785833 under £10k and there are a few.. Don't get a 'rex' version, that's more maintenance and hassle..

[edit] found some possible examples under £10k..

Might have a look myself, would be a stop gap whilst I sort my weekend car dilemma out! Seems there are ways of checking battery health, so could find a good one..

I know people buying early Nissan leafs, they have poor battery management systems, but can find ones with very good battery health for not much money..

What engine is it? Also what mileage? At worst these are probably still worth £2k, so even spending a few hundred quid doesn't seem outrageous to get it fixed.

No need to try and justify it - if you want something newer then just be honest with yourself

Unless it's the last model of Fiesta, I would have thought the slightly bigger Mazda3 would have been a better choice for any sort of distance
