Hi guys i need some advice on a card to buy money well isnt realy a prob i can spend around £500, i want top of range current best bad boy, lol, anyhow, i woudl prefer evga becuase of the upgrade program.
any ideas pls

The 8800GT is the card to get right now as it's 8800GTX performance for nearly half the price, the only problem is finding stock. The HD3850 also looks like a decent buy as it looks like it matches the HD3870 when overclocked, from the benchmarks I've been looking at. I think there's stock issues there too though.

Don't bother buying an 8800Ultra or some other "top end" card right now, at least not new. There's some new stuff coming next month, and with the 8800GT out those cards are just plummeting in value as everyone's getting shot of them.

That said, if your budget is that big I'd get two 8800GTs in SLI, or two second-hand 8800GTXs for £220 a piece because the extra memory does give the GTX an edge in one or two situations.

The rumours you're seeing are probably about the new 8800GTS that's coming next month. Supposedly it'll be on the same awesome 65nm G92 core that the 8800GT is built on and will be bumped up to 128 shader units, that's if the rumours are to be believed anyway. Theoretically such a card would utterly spank the GTX/Ultra.

There is a new gts coming out sometime next month that should be as fast or faster than a gtx or ultra. With your budget i think you may be able to get 2 of these for sli which will most likely give you the fasest 2 card setup you could buy. I am only speculating on the speed thing as no benchmarks have been seen so far but judging on how fast the gt is and the gts is going to be a good bit faster these cards should be really fast.

EVGA 8800 Ultra/GTX/GT is what you want to be looking at. The Current ATI Hardware isn't as advanced as Nvidia's

Whoa whoa whoa. ATI's hardware is more advanced than nVidia's. This doesn't make it faster mind, nVidia certainly have that crown.

so atm then the gt is the better card to get if i can get one, perhaps sli gt ?
Aye the 8800GT is the card to get right now.

hmmmz what to do what to do, i have a wife who is itching to spend the money for me lol
If you aren't the type to wait around for the next big thing (which, let's face it, is always around the corner) then just get an 8800GT now. I sold my 8800GTX and bought one of these, one of the best moves I've made in a long time as the performance is almost identical and I'm £100 up. :)

I'll take efficiency and image quality over superior but slower technology.

I saw that edit ;)
I can't even remember what it said before but it wasn't something I wanted to hide, I just sometimes reword things after reading it back to myself. In fact I just did it with this line, lol.

I'd have happily gone 8800GT SLi had there been a chipset available that doesn't suck :(
I'm not a fan of SLI but you're right, there's a serious lacking in SLI chipsets.
