Hey guys! Long time reader, and first time poster ;)

I am in the market for a new GPU to replace my old and trusty HD7850.
I'll explain my situation....
I was looking at buying a 980ti for longevity, but realised that pascal is coming out this year, and don't fancy shelling out on a high end GPU when the new generation is around the corner (along with VR!!) So... I have decided to use my budget (£600) to upgrade my whole computer, with a mid range card to see me until the end of the year. My setup includes, I53570k @ 4ghz with a gigabyte mobo that wont let me adjust the vcore..."GRR" Coolermaster 750w bronze, 8gb corsair vengeance, and 24" Samsung 1080p 60hz monitor. I plan on keeping my monitor until I get the high end GPU. So, can you guys suggest a decent mobo? and GPU that will destroy any game in 1080p?

Thanks so much for any help you guys / gals can offer :)

Dave.

R9 390 for about 250£ would be your best bang for the buck, and Radeons usualy last longer, Nvidia cards tends to perform worse when a new Nvidia line up shows up.

I was just looking at the R9 390. Would you suggest the 390X for the extra £40?? Also regarding the "radeon" option.. there are a few makes, ie. VTX3D, Sapphire, XFX. Which one is the best? My HD7850 was a sapphire and has worked flawlessly.. so I am edging towards that.
Found this one. Sapphire R9 Nitro 390 - 8GB GDDR5

But also found... https://www.overclockers.co.uk/vtx3...phics-card-vxr9-390x-8gbd5-dhe-gx-020-vx.html

Is there a difference between these?

Thanks again.

390X is about 10% faster than a 390, it's up to you to see if the extra 10% is worth the 100£ price tag difference, and i would suggest to get a good brand, like sapphire Nitro they are a bit more expensive, but a lot cooler and quieter, the XFX 30£ cheaper and i think is better than VTX3D
i dont know if you bought the monitor already or going to, but if you get the 390 i would save for this monitor at 189£, AOC 1080p 144hz, 1ms, freesync

I have the 390 nitro and its a good card.

fans don't spin till it hits 60C (I think may even be 65c) and its not loud either but its a big card so make sure you have the space for it!.

I am leaning towards the MSI R9 390x, The price isn't that much different and comes out of the box at 6100mhz for the memory. But for the same price is can get the SAPPHIRE Tri-X Radeon R9 390X. I like the look of the MSI better, but I am more function over fashion :)

What do you guys think?

P.s Thank for the info on the https://www.overclockers.co.uk/aoc-...descreen-led-monitor-black-red-mo-030-ao.html looks awesome

Have the Sapphire 390 here runs silent all the time no complaints so far. Never heard the fans spin up even during hours of gaming. Air flow through my case is pretty good though. Do recommend it :)

I have gone with the SAPPHIRE Tri-X Radeon R9 390X NITRO. Apparently has the best cooling and build quality, also has a back plate. Just getting out the tape measure to make sure it will fit in my case :)

yep i made that mistake i grabbed the Sapphire Radeon R9 Nitro 390 not the x version for £205 on black friday here at OC,got it home went to put it in the case..bout 2cm short...a bit of cutting and bending my case it eventually fitted :D ,great card mate so quiet aswell

Kinda worrying now... Been reading and aparently the X version has little to no performance increase over the 390. Should i cancel the order and get the non x version and save some pennies?

Personally, I would go for the 390 as it's so much better value. It depends what the 390X cost you (occasionally you see the odd one at an okay price).

:) I cancelled my previous order and went with the 390, should keep me until the new pascal comes out, then I can sell it. Now I still have some money left over to upgrade the rest of my computer.. so any advice on a good motherboard? (I have an i53570k which is LGA1155 socket, should I upgrade this too?) and is it worth getting a SSD? I don't really mind about waiting for things to load.. as all I use my computer for is internet and games.

Your current I5 is still decent enough so would keep that and go with an SSD if you have not got one. SSD is a great upgrade.

Thinkin about getting the 1tb 850evo and do away with my HDD all together. Also, any Mobo recommendation for the 1155 socket?

P.s, forgot to say what 390 I went for... I got the MSI 390 8G, as it was almost £100 cheaper than the 390X :D

if i knew you wanted to go over 300£ budget i would have suggested Fury Nano for 350£ , way better deal than 390X but 50£ over your budget
mobo i would just wait a bit then upgrade to skylake or Zen with DDR4 mobo, and SSD no need to get 1T, start with 250 or 500Go, install your OS on it, and few games you play most (online games mostly for me) and if you need extra space add anoher SSD
