Hey dudes

Right, I have played, dare I say it, World of Warcraft on and off for about 3yrs and I have rid of the bug. I am after something to relax too when the workload from uni is light and something to really get into. I used to play counterstrike 1.6 many years ago but never really got into it, maybe its because I didnt have a clan or something.

So yea, anyways... I am looking for a good game to get into. One that I can come back to over and over without thinking "can I really be bothered to play today". I have looked at Battlefield: Bad Company 2 but I have heard mixed opinions. Some say its a great game but too many immature players (regardless of age) and others say that the players are mature enough but to get the most from it you need to be in a clan of some sort.

I really dont know what to do. I like MMORPGs, but WoW got too boring. I do like FPSs but too many to choose from. Strategy games...well I havent liked the look of a strategy game in a long time. I have the StarCraft 2 beta installed and I have played a few times but it seems like everyone is already so good at it that a beginner doesnt have time to learn and grow.

I think I have rambled...sorry about that. But any ideas?

Left4Dead:
The first or the second will do the trick. I've played the first one for about 400 hours, still not sick of it. Saying that, you have to play after 10pm to get decent games with decent players.

Dead Space:
Single player that will not let you down. Ask anyone.

Incorrect. The beta has only been out for 2 months, everyone is still quite new. You could quite easily become good after a few weeks if you're into RTS games and played the original SC. If you start now you'll have a huge advantage when the game properly launches anyway, and the game will definitely be huge.

I still like playing DoD Source, community seems quite mature compared to others although you'll find there's quite a few Germans playing so worth learning some phrases :D

Humm...I must just suck at it then :P

I never played the orginal game as I was a warcraft fan not starcraft really. I am great at games like Age of Mythology and even the orignal Age Of Empires. I loved with a passion Generals too. I just dont get the same buzz from current strategy games as I did with them though :(

Funny you say that, I was thinking of picking it up off Steam for £5.99. Gameplay kind of reminds me of the orginal Enemy Territory, that game was great!

Team Fortress 2
Counterstrike Source
Company of Heroes
Bad Company 2
Left 4 Dead 2

Then you're set for life :D

I will probably look into DoD:S as my friends with low(er) spec machines can play that too and join in. I have TF2 but dont seem to really get into it that much.

Sounds to me like you're an RTS player... usually RTS and FPS don't mix too well (or if they do there's passion on one side and non on the other).

counter strike would be one if it was not for the cheaters, COD don't go there cos of cheaters.

L4D would be one

team fortress you can't really take seriously :p

I would play shattered horizon over them any day( need quite a beefy PC through)

for single player you tried fallout and mass effect (one or the other) or you will be there ages :p

I used to love RTS but only really love the old games. I wouldnt say I was just an RTS player but I can see your point from what I have said. Does anyone play games like Generals or Age of Empires 2 anymore?

You sound a bit like a mate of mine. He finds it hard to just relax when playing a game, everything has to be competitive. He was in 1.6 clans for 3 or 4 years and then started playing Pro Evo at a competitive level for another 2 or 3 years.

He has quit both games now but still isn't able to just play a single player game as it 'bores' him without the competitive element.

Heroes of Newerth.

Dota Warcraft 3 inspired MP team game. Uber competitive at higher levels. More accessible now for noobs. FREE.. until release..

I can play a single player game if I can compare stats or something with my friends. For instance, something like Torchlight where we can compare Journal stats or something.

It's funny that you mentioned wolf:et because I've been telling all my old et buddies to get Bad Company 2 and none have been disappointed. For me it's the best team based FPS since wolf:et anyway.
