That's my computer, running Windows SP3, with the PSU swapped out for a 550w one, the Graphics card swapped out for and Asus EAH 4850, and an extra 512mb of RAM added.

This issue is, is that the processor is absolutely terrible. After my last computer breaking, along with its quad core processor, i have had to return to this old computer, adding in the salvagable parts.

Not wanting to waste absolute fortunes of money, i need a new CPU that is compatible with this computer/motherboard, and will be able to give decent power to allow me to play TF2 and watch videos without stutter.

If there are any issues with what i want to do, please point them out, but as far as i can tell this will be the best way to improve my performance, and since the processor is so bad, a cheap replacement will still be better, will it not?

Had a quick look at your link n it dont seam to list the model of the motherboard can you please let us know what the model is an someone will let you know if it's worth trying to upgrade.

also what's the max you willing to spend right?

If the case takes standard (m)atx motherboards your best bet on a tight budget would be to replace the motherboard with a newer 775 board or an AM2+ board so you're not stuck with Pentium Ds. IIRC Pentium Ds still sell for about the same as low end Core 2s so your total loss shouldn't be much.

Thanks for the help so far guys.

Knowing this new information, i understand now that there may not be an issue with my old processor, since i tested it by putting it in this computer. If it's not compatible, it may not be broken, and may still be useable.

So, my next questions, how can i test a CPU without a mother board, and what cheap mother boards with work with an intel Q6600, and would that fix my issues?
