I'm looking for a new graphics card so I will be able to play Battlefield 2 and 3 at high settings without any problems, I'm looking to spend around £130. I'm not sure what I'm looking for so if someone could give me one that will work in my pc I will be very grateful. If you need to know my specs please tell me and i'll post them. ATM I have a Nvidia Geforce GT340 which laggs on Black Ops and will lag on battlefield. I'm not sure what watts my power supply is but tell me if you need it and how I can find out, can't find it on the case.

thanks!!

On the side of your PSU it should tell you the wattage of it. Maybe spend a little more like £20 and go for a 5870, they can be picked up for around £150 nowadays if you shop around. But of course, make sure you got a half decent psu for it tho.

Hi there,

Aye, before we can spec you a graphics card we will definitely need to know what make and model PSU you have. The best way to find this out is to open up your case and look for the stickers on the side of the PSU. Usually there will be a sticker with the make/model number and another with the ratings of the different rails.

Assuming your PSU is good enough to handle it, this is the card I would go for. If you want something a step up from this then you need to increase your budget to £150-160.

Also, would you be able to tell us the rest of your specs - since modern games are increasingly making use of CPU power and RAM (4GB is recommended for gaming).

What resolution you playing at?
My HD5850 coped with BF2 and BFBC2 at 1680x1050 well at max settings.
Doubt anything you buy now near £130 would cope with BF3 at high settings though, you could get 1 5850 now then save up and buy another for Crossfire when BF3 comes out.

Thats the PSU I have, If it's not good I can buy another one, as long as they are not too expensive. Maybe something along £50?

About my resolution, atm my moniter is 1280x1024, but I will be buying a new one soon and it would be something bigger, so I'd like to be able to play BF on a high resolution.

I can increase my budget to £200 for the graphics card now but the less i spend the better.

This is what my dxdiag looks like if that helps.

Id say you would want to upgrade your psu, not a bad psu, but a bit outsated with what you got.

Decent psu here for a touch over £50

And gfx card

Ok, slightly over £200, but that GFX card, price will change, mate got one last week from here and it was £149. I just noticed a thread on here with the 5830 at £80, now that sounds like a good deal, and they are pretty good cards also.

Beaten to it a bit

Get a 6950 gfx card. A 2gb VTX one could be had for £180 if budget mega tight.

Personally I would go to a 600watt psu, something like an antec

I would have said the 6950, i just got a flashable one yesterday for £175 off that well known auction site. If you could stretch it a bit then yeah, go for one of them. There is so much to choose from nowadays, i was debating, get this, get that etc. :D but happy with what ive ended up with i suppose.

Yep go for that, good card and cant go wrong with it, i came close to getting that model.

As for the PSU, how much do you want to spend on one?

There are quiet a few makes out there, id say pay at least £50. Dont bother picking up something like a 600w model for £20, might sound a bit of a bargain, but the psu is not something you want to scrimp on. I know it says "450w recommended" for that card. But i would go for something at least 600w . Models to look out for are antec, corsair, OCZ, the XFX range are also good.

That link i posted earlier for a psu would do the job just fine. Have a look around at the ones i just mentioned.
