My plan is to garage the S2000 over the winter and not put it into a ditch driving to work in poor conditions. Plus I want to keep the miles off it and keep the drives to weekends/fun only rather than to work and back and the occasional trip to Manchester and South Wales.

I had a mk1 Focus before and put 400 miles a week onto it with no issues at all, so I'm looking at getting another. My budget is up to £2500 and I've noticed I can get a mk2 for that sort of money, albeit higher mileage.

Should I go for a mk2 or maybe look elsewhere? Mainly want a Focus as my previous experience of owning one was good and my local dealer is decent. Plus the quick clear front window is a good asset in the winter.

If you're spending anything over £1k-1500 I'd definitely go for a mk2, just avoid the 1.6 petrol in 115ish form

If ykure tempted by a diseasel I'd only go for the 1.8 which is old enough to still be pretty reliable

I don't do enough miles to justify a diesel I don't think. I'll be doing around 12-15 miles a day, plus random weekend trips mainly to Manchester way and Glynn Neath/Swansea. How frugal can the 2.0 petrol be on a run?

Just get the Petrol Focus there very reliable and easy to shift on when your finished. I've owned 3! 2.5k should get you a nice 2006 with less than 80k on it. I would go for the Zetec trim with climate pack. And the best engine IMO is the 115bhp 1.6 instead of the 99bhp 1.6

The 115 1.6 is abysmal in fuel for what it is - if you want something that drinks like a 200bhp car then that's what to buy. (Unless I'm getting the t vct thigymabob mixed up and that's not the 115, but pretty sure I'm not as it was avis' favourite car for a while)

The 2 litre is fine, mid 30's

Can't go wrong with a focus. On my mk 2 titanium 2.0 I was getting around 25-28 mpg for mostly stop start traffic. Chip as chips to run also

Yeh the 1.6 ti Vct is the 115bhp mine got decent mpg when I had it. With the 99bhp being so gutless and 1 second slower to 60 that would probably be just as bad mpg.
But As u say the 2.0 would probably get near similair mpg anyway.

It's a trim rather than an engine linked thing iirc

In the fiesta everything above style has quickclear, I imagine the focus is similar

I had a 58 plate 1.8 Zetec for 6 months a few years ago and it was absolutely terrible on fuel, trip computer said 23.4mpg average over the 6 months which was dire for the performance. I have a 2.0 Type R now that returns around the same and is infinitely more fun to drive. I guess I'm just echoing the comments further up about certain petrol variants being poor on fuel for the performance.

It was broken.

Thanks for the input so far. Do all of them have the quick clear front window?
It has to have climate pack to have the heated screens. It normally says in the add. Most Zetec's, Ghia's and Titaniums have them

Bought a Focus yesterday, it's got the Sony head unit in it. I'm presuming there's no way to connect my iPhone 6 to it? If not, should I just replace the unit or get something like a Parrot kit?
