Hi there,

My old Belkin just isn't picking up the signal from the wireless router any more, in the same room, while my iphone and laptop have no problems so guess its time to get a new one, but which one and what am I looking out for?

Network is on G and virgin router, internal card preferred and something with some decent software and or support would be nice.

Cheers.

Steven

Did you have a Belkin G card?

I've got a Belkin G+ card which has been sitting in a cupboard since I changed to networking over the mains. Used it for a few days, decided the walls/distance were too much. Got a very good signal near the router which is a Netgear one off my Virgin modem.

(unbelievably the 4th time i've tried to reply to this) Yes its a Belkin G, its at least ten years old and never been very reliable.

I've just released my IP, though couldn't get it to renew properly, but windows sussed what was wrong and fixed it for me, got a connection now, but no doubt it will have dropped by the time i submit reply

No idea your exact setup but if the router is in the same room as the desktop, can't you just snake a cable between them? All wireless issues would go and for much less than the price of a new card. OCUK does 10m of ethernet cable for under £5.

If you think it's the card to blame I could let you have my G+ card for £7inc, its worked perfectly for me at the range you're talking about.

I think for £7 its worth a shot, how do you want to do this, list it in MM so the dons don't have a problem with this convo?

Good luck with it :)

Is the signal you wanted getting through and holding up ok?

Rather than bring up the sale thread i thought i'd post it in here.

The signal is up and down, but slightly stronger at worst case, and perfect at times.

One thing that had reduced is the ping, its gone from the 3-400's down in to the 10s, can't just be a co incidence. With the reduced ping sites are loading quicker and it doesn't feel like pages are hanging anymore, so overall worth the purchase, cheers.

Still think the router is to blame, and the sporadic results on two wireless cards and a laptop goes to someway to proven my point.
