Need a new motherboard! AM3+ Socket

Ideally I'm aiming for a decent gaming rig.

gaming your normally better with IVY bridge (atleast from my experience) i had an amd rig before my current 3570k (used same card from old rig) and saw a very nice jump in frame rates. I guess the only question is are you willing to if you want it get the extra which isnt to much

your looking at spending £150 on a amd cpu and upto £150 on a suitable motherboard and your aiming for a decent gaming rig ? I would skip amd and go with the 3570k set up everytime

If you do decide on AMD save yourself a few quid and get the 8320 not the 8350. The 8320 at its current price is actually worthwhile and will save you a lot more whilst not missing out on much (if any) of the performance of the 8350. (assuming you're overclocking ofcourse) Paying out for a 8350 is pointless when only another 30 quid will take you to the better performing chip.

All a matter of priorities, AMD will work out ~£75 cheaper if you go for the 8320. Depends if the performance increase is worth it for yourself. Personally I'm planning on picking up an 8320 and 990fx bundle myself in the future as the £75 will go nicely towards getting a few of the little dings out of the motor.

ASUS M5A99x has been very good with my 8350 at about £100 new. I bought mine second hand for £50 but would have bought new based on my experience. An 8320 and the M5A99x would be a good inexpensive combo (£220) for an all round rig and the money saved could go for a decent gfx card for gaming.
