Hey guys
My old motherboard died the day I fitted a new psu and installed windows 8, Im also a rookie when it comes to motherboards and processors so please bear with me, apparently I also need a new processor since the socket is a 1156 which im told are difficult to find motherboards for, I am now unsure what motherboard to get I have been looking at the gigabyte GA-B75-D3V (ATX) and I just wanted to know of it would be a good combination with my specs, if I did need a new processor I may also upgrade from i5 to i7 here are my other specs: HD Radeon 7850, Corsair TX750 enthusiast PSU, Corsair vengeance 8gb ddr3 ram, Seagate Barracuda 2TB HDD, 500mb samsung HDD.

Thank you for your time.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi there!

If you are simply after a replacement motherboard then you should be able to find a replacement one without much difficulty very cheaply second hand.

However if you wish to upgrade then I would be looking at socket 1150 as it is intels latest socket which means you will be able to put the latest CPUs in it. If you were to get an i5 or i7 and would be looking to do some overclocking then Z87 is the only way for you to go. However if you have no interest in overclocking then I would suggest getting a cheaper motherboard to accompany the CPU to save some money. Any socket 1150 motheboard will work fine with the newer Haswell CPUs.

Excellent thank you sir, I am not looking to overclock so thanks I will definitely look into the 1150 socket motherboards :D

Hi and welcome to the forums. :)

Your current mobo and cpu use socket 1156. To get a replacement motherboard now means you will need to find one second hand from the likes of Ebay. You should be able to pick a good one up for £40 or less.

The B75 board is socket 1150. The sockets are not interchangeable and you will also need a new cpu.

Are you sure your current board is dead and that you have'nt dislodged a plug or entered a wrong setting? Have you tried clearing cmos?
