Need a new mouse. Got £60

You need to justify that suggestion. OP has £60 for a mouse, the MX518 is an £18 mouse. It's like recommending a Mondeo to someone with the budget for an Aston Martin. Yes, the MX518 is great, and probably unbeaten on price performance, but it isn't the best mouse for sub £60 in my opinion.

Just because he has £60 to spend doesn't mean he needs to. I was also going to suggest the MX518.

It's a fantastic mouse; Mine has been going strong for 2 years now and I would gladly buy another if I needed to.

I don't really do i? He does'nt have to spend £60 like the above poster mentioned. My input was the MX518, simple really!

Of course not, my recommendation was a ~£40 mouse, but the OP has mentioned the Kone[+], which is very high end, so that's the sort of thing he should be looking at really. Repeating my previous analogy - if you were in the market for an Aston Martin, would you settle for the Mondeo instead? Yes, the new model is actually pretty good, and the price/performance is MUCH better, but is that what you really want?

With high end PC gear you get diminishing returns and quite quickly you're spending a lot more for not much improvement. However, to get the best performance, you need to double, triple the budget etc. It's accepted. Same applies to gfx cards and almost everything.

I recommended the Deathadder. It costs almost twice as much as the MX518, is it twice as good? No, but it is better. That's what I'm trying to stress.

OP, what are you using now? Why the £60 budget in your opinion?

Well it helps a lot to explain WHY you're suggesting it. Is it because of the brilliant price performance? Logitech warranty? Best mouse you've used? Tried any others that were more expensive and didn't compare etc? Better than the Kone[+] he mentions?

Certainly not having a go at you, but I do see endless spec me threads with products put forward with no justification, which is not that helpful to the OP compared to saying why as well. As a community, we should be able to do better.

I've been using the gigabyte M6900. Never wanted anything else. Have a look at it, it's perhaps below your budget but as mentioned before you don't have to spend that much if you find something you fancy below that price:)

I'm currently using the M6980. Very good for the price, good alternative to the MX518 certainly, but different characteristics. The M6980 is laser 2100 DPI. IIRC, the M6900 is optical, so more similar to the MX518.

None of them are high end mice, so might not really be suitable if you're looking for the best. The M6980 isn't as smooth as some of the top-end optical mice I've used (Deathadder included), though the build is solid, it has good weight and boy the design is comfy. Really nicely moulded and comfortable, but totally useless for left handers.

I have used a mamba, great mouse untill it breaks, wheel went weird on me, i scroll down and it scrolls up and down all over the place, tried other mice to replace it, logitech, rat7, couldn't get to grips with them and went and got a deathadder and am using it now, it's around 6 weeks old and all ready I notice the scroll acting a little weird every now and then and the quality of the feel of the wheel is dissapointing tbh, my next would be to try a Kone+ when funds allow, I personally wouldn't recomend the deathadder because of the wheel quality

thanks for the linky alexhull24 some nice reviews there plenty to be reading about didnt realise this thread at got so busy will read through the comments i know the mx518 has a good rep and has been around for a while but im not keen on getting one, have had one in the past!

I went from an MX518 to a deathadder... Pretty brilliant mice the both of them but prefer the deathadder :)

I use a logitech MX performance
then again it is multi purpose not just for gaming and in my opinion it does what I want how I like for me..... each to their own.
