Ok my siatek cyborg has just stopped working the left click is not responding right and i find my self with a dilemma which mouse to go for now?
i would like it to have a high DPI and programmable side buttons
any suggestions?

Get the razer lachesis, just got one recently myself and its awesome, combine it with the destructor mouse mat and youre set, if you want to complete the package get a tarantula keyboard. Theyre all really good, loads of customisation and they look funky too

1600DPI, 8 programmable buttons, 20quid, will more than like last over 3yrs.
Untouchable value/performance. But yes it is lower than others that cost double the price.

If you get a Razer get the Deathadder.
Avoid the Roccat, poor build quality.
MS Habu is not worth the hassle.
MS Sidewinder is an unholy abomination.

But I prioritize reliability and function over DPI numbers, so like all forum posts these are my experiences and may not be shared by everyone.

I had a mx 518 until i bought a G5 and a steelseries mat quiet recently. great mouse in my opinion and they have vista drivers whereas the 518 does not iirc

the MX518 uses the exact same drivers as the G5, so, yes, it does have vista drivers :)

Btw, I reccomment the MX518 too. i've had mine since release and it's still working perfectly.

Razer DeathAdder
From the looks of it not quite as high end as the previously mentioned Lachesis but its still a good mouse :)

I got my Razer DeathAdder two weeks ago and it is one of the best purchases I've ever made :)

Was thinking of the Logitech MX518 and Microsoft HABU before I decided on the DA, and I'm glad I did.

Avoid the logitech G9 unless you want fun issues such as peeling grips.

Just how bad is the build quality of the Roccat?

I too have a razer lachesis great mouse, only slight downfall is that I have fairly big hands and it sits rather low, but buy a nice wrist rest fixes that ;)

I have had mx510 for years, as i just bought a new system i totally redid everything and ordered a mx518. These mice are amazing, build quality, comfort and VERY precise. Never had a problem with them EVER. mx518 at £20 aswell can't go wrong.
