Hi All, I have a Pro Z690-A DDR4 Mobo with i7-12700K + 750W psu with a NVIDIA 1660 GC..
I need an Upgraded graphics card in order to use the Newer Updated Photoshop. I had to default back to v 26.81 in order to still use PS.
Should I buy a 16GB or 8GB card like a 3050 0r 4060 or the below. I do not want to pay a high price for one. I do NOT game, I'm a photographer.
Your Advice will be taken into consideration. A card that takes up 2 slots only would be ideal, but if it is larger I can take out my pci-e usb card and move it down to a larger slot.
What takes up my space in the tower is the Noctua large cooler
Many Thanks.

MSI GeForce RTX 5060 Ti 16G INSPIRE 2X OC Graphics Card

As a start ignore anything 8gb or below, its criminal that sub 16gb cards even exist these days.

So I've advise looking at a 4060Ti / 4070 level card. The 50 series is basically at the same level or only slightly better for a wedge more cash.

Hi embalse---Problem so far is the cards are over £400. I don't Game, only Photography, so unless prices drop to my cash flow level it looks like I'll be sticking to Photoshop v26.81..I need either a 12gb or 16gb card though PS will work on an 8gb I’d prefer to have the higher gb card. Not sure if a 3050 is any good but I'm prepared to wait a bit longer. Thank You.

Just on another point. I left Adobe sometime ago in favour of Affinity Photo and have no regrets, which may be a cheaper option in the long run

embalse--If I find a Good second hand one I will buy it. I use a Trial of Affinity on my other Desktop. Still prefer PS & LRC though.

OK I'm going to buy the

Zotac GeForce RTX 5060 Ti Twin Edge OC 16GB GDDR7 PCI-Express Graphics Card from OCuk at £399:95.

I hope this decision is good..

OK I bought the card and fitted it in. Had a bad time getting the Studio Driver to fully install. In the end I had to use the DDU to uninstall drivers in safe mode then re-install them. That worked. ALAS, the stupid NVIDIA APP will not work at all. Tried everything so far. Any ideas. I use Photoshop every day and the App is needed in Photoshop.
Do you think I should update my motherboard BIOS? Hate doing that. The 1660 8gb card worked well with the APP. But the App just opens a black box for the 5060Ti 16gb. Any ideas Please. Thanks

I use photoshop and lightroom and I'm sure I've used them without the nvidia app that I previously uninstalled.

I'd suggest an uninstall of the app, try photoshop and if it complains then download a fresh copy and re-install.

With my new build, I'm using a 4070TI-Super that I got 2nd hand for about the same price as your 5060Ti. It's made a big difference when using some of the masking tools such as select subject, and the AI denoise in Lightroom.

Hi JohnStewart-----NVIDIA just did an Update for the App of which I have installed, Alas still not working but I think it is because I need to Update my Motherboard BIOS.
The Drivers are now working since I un-installed it in Safe Mode then re-installed it and All OK with the drivers now. My other problem since installing this card is my Spyder Profile will not install at start up. I did do a re-Calibration but two days later it stopped showing at startup. At moment I not done any photoshoping or used Lightroom since install the 5060TI. I will be testing it out over the weekend. Although Adobe told me my 1660 card was not adequate for PS 26, I found after that the Update is same as with this new card so it was working...I have also installed a New NVME 500gb just for the scratch disc, so hopefully all might run quicker as well. My next decision is whether to install Windows 11 (YUK< I Hate it) just installed it on my older PC and I can't even make my taskbar wider. Grrrrrr! Thank You for your Reply to me.

just seen this thread and i run a similar spec intel PC as the original poster but i use the onboard graphics intel 770 for my photoshop usage - i dont game at all just photoshop usage

however in recent months it has become very slow and even worse it completely shuts down my PC altogether for the last 3 weeks it lets me edit about 3 pictures then shuts down and reboots which is beyond annoying

i ran fc/scanow on a number occasions and it told me it has fixed the problem (IT HAS NOT) Totally pig sick of this 'carry on' now so would appreciate where i go from here

it only shuts down when i use Photoshop even reinstalled it all to no avail seeing the comments about the various versions of photoshop in this thread not working i am wondering if this is where the problem is my pc bios and drivers are all upto date all input and advice welcomed

I use a 12700k with a 1080GTX, not an overly heavy user of photoshop but been using it of late for layers. Noticed when painting things in there is a noticable lag but other than that it seems to work ok for me. Will be upgrading gcard at some point.

What are you doing or where are you noticing a performance issue?

Rest of my spec is 64GB of ram and running all NVME storage.

Updating the brush effects and such is were an upgraded card will help most, as there will be a lot of calculations to be made.

Have you checked CPU temps?

I know you say it only happens with Photoshop, but I'd be surprised if Photoshop was responsible. I'd be looking at the normal troubleshooting for a PC spontaneously rebooting.

I had a Very, Very Good NVIDIA 1660 card. Then Photoshop gave me an Update for the new 2025 and adobe said I could not update it as I needed a 12 or 16mb card. So I had to buy a new card, the NVIDIA 5060 GFX 16gb card from OCuk. That even worked a bit slow at first. Since the last update to the newer 2026 it's been working better. So if you going to buy a new card make sure it is a 16gb one.
