Need a new power adapter

So I just went to plug my magsafe adaptor into my multi block power surge protected block when I get abig bang and burning smeel which resulted in this

So now I need a new one but I am not sure if the new style will fit my old MBP 15", late 2009. You can see it the old style from the picture. Will this work?

Also any suggestions for decent surge protected block, ideally between 8 and 10 sockets?

The new style will work. It was a redesign attempt to resolve the failure problems on the original design.

Have reserved one at the local purple shop, hefty price at £65, for all I know it could be the power cord and not the main power adapter box. Anyway hopefully should work and between that and a new surge box its been a painful purchase!
