Hi guys, my media server wouldn't power up so I pulled the PSU out and found this(!)

Any suggestions for a new PSU? The server is usually left on all day, turned off over night and runs 8 SATA hard drives and an old PATA CD-ROM drive. I've got two 1 PATA to 2 SATA splitters and the burnt out single PATA to SATA.

Cheers,

Jed

I've tried it with another cable and it's powering up, so might have just blown the fuse. Anyway, forgot to mention, it's 380 Watts, should I be looking at replacing it with one that's more?

Any of the Seasonic Gold / Platinum / Titanium units.

I've got home servers running 24/7, I've been using Seasonic X PSU's since 2009, some of them have been to the moon and back in terms of usage. Fans on them never spin either but my PSU's are massively over specked to the power draw, at least 650w PSU's where max power draw is about 150w.

Also I trust Seasonic to not burn my house down while i'm away, or sleeping at night!

Something like this will do it

What brand is it?

380W doens't mean much if it's an el'cheapo PSU.

I quite like the bequiet! PSU range.

System Power range should be perfect for your needs.

Now that's one crispy adapter...
With SATA having those closely spaced contacts some of them must have gotten loose and say thermal cycling or vibrations or such made it short...

BitFenix Formula is cheapest with quality capacitors.
But Seasonic Focus Plus is very competitively priced for its performance.
