Hi fellas,

I've got an Asus P5W DH Deluxe to hook up, along with an Ati X1900XT, Intel X6800 and 2GB Geil RAM. I don't plan on going crossfire in the near future though it would be a nice option should I ever get a good enough monitor (optimal resolution is 1280x1024 with what I use at the moment).

Can anyone recommend me a nice PSU to go with all this? My budget is... hmm... let's say £100? Not sure how much PSUs are these days to be honest, so I'll make this budget flexible if it need be :D

Thanks!

Well I recently got one of them Seasonic 600's

Very quiet, cost a bomb a zillion others to choose from but does give me that warm fuzzy comfort feeling as they have a good reputation for reliability

You don't think 600W is overkill?

I think 600w is fine. Also it is mre future proof.

If i were you i would try and find a seasonic M12 600w. Like the s12, only modular and braided cables. What more could you ask for?!?!

Yes well my 500w does just fine and I have a whole ton of stuff...including 3 hard drives, 1 optical, 1 floppy, extra fans, 2 cold cathodes...and the intel CPU uses less power than mine.

You might wanna find someone with a working Crossfire X1900 XT system and see what they have, I remember there being some issues with a few brands, due to the high draw of the X1900 XT, that was something to do with the way the rails were split/organised.

I don't know whether or not they have it sorted but the Antecs were having a problem with the Asus boards. Z

I believe Seasonic sorted out the problem with ASUS boards.. and it wans't only Asus boards that did it either... Im laymans terms , as far as i understand it, the Conroe boards have a habit of instantly demanding loads of power the moment they are turned on and the PSU goes ... no can't have it

If plan reusing it in a DFI or a Conroe DO NOT get a Seasonic S12
If they send you a old version of the PSU the 7 day grace period (OCuk included), and Seasonic wont replace the PSU either saying its a known fault and will blame it on the motherboard manufacturer.
It is a very quiet PSU if you dont mind RMA'ing it a few times because you got a bugged version

Personally i would go with the safe bet and get the 600 or 700w
OCZ GameXStream Silent SLI Ready ATX2 Power Supply

After purchasing a very similar setup to that of the OP, I can heartily recommend the Corsair CMPSU-620HX, as I have had no issues [or noise for that matter] from this PSU with this Asus-board-based setup.

It's a smidge more than the magical £100, but it's made for Corsair by Seasonic [allegedly] and has wonderful flat modular cabling with clean/stable power delivery and high efficiency. So it's essentially it's an M12 with more headroom and better cables. That's available now. :)

personally i'd recommend the tagan series probably the 600w dual engine, very stable psu's iirc. and no 600w is by no means overkill lol infact it's almost getting the norm to have! if 600w is overkill then god knows what the 1.1kw version of the tagan's are lol :D

I recently bought a OCZ GameXStream 600W PSU, and have been well impressed with it. It's very well made, stable, and it's very quiet. It's also one very sexy looking PSU :D
