Hyper 580 comes with lots of Molex of which you only connect the ones you need to use. It keeps the case tidier. :)

Too right forget Hiper.

Seasonic S12 600w has 9 molex, 6 Sata, 2 Floppy and 2x pci-e connectors as well as the 20/24 pin main, 4 pin 12v and a 8 pin 12v (for Intel boards i believe). Excellent psu and very efficient.

I was going to recommend the OCZ Gamestream 700w sli psu but it only has 6 molex connectors. I suppose you could use some splitters though. Aside from that they will power a pair of 8800gtx's in sli easily as i have read a couple of the new cards reviews and they use that psu. A very efficient 85% too.

Ah cool.. well i'll have a look at both of those.

can you remove the un-used wires like in the hyper?

+ I can cut down on the molex connectors.. i dont really need that many

maybe 5-8

No, they are not modular but that's just a gimmick anyway. My Hiper before it blew was modular but i still used all the cables anyway. One for the modular cables was for the 4pin 12v, one for a pci-e connector, which only left four leads with one molex on each of them. Needless to say i had to use splitters to be able to connect everything up as well as adapters for sata and floppy. Very poor cable provision.

If you have room in the case, like i have, you can tuck the spare cables down between the motherboard tray and the door. If not then cable ties are your freind.

Ah ok.. well i'v taken a few things out i dont need so..

Pump - molex
CD/DVD DRIVE - Molex
lights - molex
fan connecters - 2 molex's
and maybe have 2-4 spare :D

Tagan TG700-U25 700W ATX2.0 Dual Engine Silent SLi Compliant Silent PSU

SHould i just go for that?

That beast is aimed at quad sli by the looks of it. 4x pci-e connectors, 7x molex and 10x sata. Quad rail again but it has 20 amps on each but a maximum of 56 amps this time. See here .

For the price of that i would get the OCZ gamestream and use a couple of splitters if need be.

i want to stay away from hiper.. i'v heard nothing but bad things about them.

Thanks anyway

Mine has literally just gone pop this second !!

Of to OcUK to get the 600w Seasonic I think !!

Actually thinking about that Tagan thats not a bad idea. If you decide to sli a pair of those beasties in the future at least you will have 4x proper pci-e connectors.

Another Hiper gone bang. I hope yours did'nt take anything else with it. Unfortunately mine took a mobo with it. :(

My Hiper went "ribbit, ribbit, ribbit" and then went back to the retailer.

I hear on good authority that these PSUs are made in a secret factory in Taiwan where they have a big machine into which old bedsteads, refrigerators and scrap metal objects are thown into one end and shiny new Hiper PSUs emerge at the other other. However, this could be just a malicious rumour.
