well after doing some process of elimination, it comes down to my psu been the culprit for my pc powering down so in other words, time to dig into the pocket again :(.

I need a power supply to be able to handle

Asus p5k-e wifi ap mobo
4 sata hdds
creative x-fi with front plate
nvidia 8800GTS graphics card
2gb ram
intel core 2 duo 2.6ghz cpu
front and rear fans
dvd writer

My current is the Hiper type-r Modular 580w which sadly does not seem to be up to the challenge, im on a tight budget so need a nice and reliable psu, ideally a max of £80

look no further than Corsair HX520. PC power & cooling 610W looks very nice as well so is the Antec Trio 550W.

I can personally recommend the Tagan but OCUK don't stock anything lower than 800W anymore.

got my manager one of those seemed to run fairly smoothly. Seems strange that its 60watts less power than my current, i know mines about 2 years old now, but can it really be that struggling?

the hiper 580w IIRC actually has fewer amps on the +12V rail than the total combined on the HX520 despite being rated 60W higher.

Quite a while ago there was a thing about all the hipers going up in flame but that seemed to have been sorted.

Having said that most hipers were fine just a few that went out taking other components with it made a big fuss on the forum.

your psu may of died. hiper psus seem to have a history of that. how long has this been happening and how long have you had your psu

as i said, about 2 years now, its only really started happening since i bought the new mobo and gfx and ram,

Before i had a Geforce 7950GT and A8N-SLI SE which im guessing in comparision is a fair bit
