I'm looking for a new router for when I change to Fibre Broadband in a couple of weeks. Problem is I really don't know what to look for, the ISP sell either a Technicolor TG582n or Technicolor TG670 but I've never heard of them.

In the past I've had a Billion or Draytek, both of which were excellent.

Any recommendations? estimated download speed is 66-70mbps.

The Technicolor routers are the most basic of basic. Wouldn't want to use them.

Depending on budget, I'd go for an N66U over an N56U (wouldn't go for x56U anything actually). If you want an AC model get an AC66U.

That budget will stretch to lower-end "business" equipment. But really, unless you require advanced features or anything that requires a fair bit of power (VPN), an AC66U is probably the best overall choice. If you do require VPN capability, then just bump that up to an AC68U.

Cheers guys, what's the advantage of VPN capability.. the fact I'm asking probably means I don't need it but would be nice to know :)

Means you can VPN into your home network when 'out and about', to access home network devices as if you were at home, or bypass the 'out and about' networks security policies (in some circumstances).

The ASUS routers support Open VPN which is strong, not sure if the OEM firmware does it but Merlin's definitely does.
