I'm looking for a new tent that I'll use about 3 weekends a year. Ideally looking for a 3 man as I like to have space and have a double inflatable mattress.

I've been using one of the cheapo £30 jobbies from Halfrauds but want something new.

I've seen some 'pop up tents' as per the link.

They look OK for a weekend but I'm a bit worried about it not having a small porch to keep the rain out when entering/exititng the tent. Anyone used one of these?

Alternatively I've seen some of the quick assemble tents that use an external frame that 'snaps' into place. These are more expensive but better made.

If anyone can suggest another option or give opinions on the tents I've mentioned I'd appreciate it.

So are you just looking for a tent for sleeping in or are you after something with a bit of a living area?

Mind if I butt in? :o Just this minute looking at what tent to buy myself.

I need a 2 man tent myself. Will only be me in it but I'd like it a bit roomy so I can possibly use an air bed. I'd also like a good sized porch to put all my bags, shoes etc in. I'm not the tallest person in the world (5' 9) but a decent amount of headroom would be good so I can stand up while getting dressed :p. Also needs to be 2 sheets thick, stand up very well to wind and snow and generally be built well. So far I have been looking at a couple of Vangos, mainly the Arrow 200. Any thoughts?

Hey guys, I have just bought an outwell oregon 3 for taking to leeds festival and a couple of camping breaks with the gf. I must say it is fantastic, 3000mm material (much more than most tents), good quality poles, etc.

It's not too cheap at the RRP of £119 (Its £89.99 in my local camping shop though), although I managed to get mine for £45 brand spanking new from a nice guy on fleabay.

If you decide you want a little bit bigger than this, there is the oregon 4 which is 4man, and just that tad bigger.

BTW, the bag it comes in is very small, :D

You'll be hard pressed to find a tent that ticks all those boxes. Obviously the taller tents are the harder it is for them to stand up to the wind, so you might be asking a bit much for something you can stand up in. Also tents of this height come in larger sizes, typically 3-4 person family tents. In my opinion you'd be better off looking for something a little shorter and getting dressed awkwardly like the rest of us. :p

I Personally have a Vaude Taurus II, which is rated as a 2-3 person tent, which in reality means it comfortably has room for 2 people and their kit. It's not the tallest of tents (you can sit up in it though) and it only has a modest porch, but its sturdy and quick to put up. 18 months ago I paid £160 for it from cotswold camping.

Okay thanks. I will be willing to sacrifice headroom. It's the least important of the criteria really. I've also been looking at this:

Also, I had a quick peek at the Taurus II but don't know much about it. Would you recommend it, plus and negative points etc? I slept in a Vango last time we went camping and it took an absolute battering from wind and snow but was perfectly fine, so I trust them now :D. Around £100ish is my budget by the way.

I'd certainly class it as value for money; it's not the best tent avaliable, but it's not the most expensive either. It's fairly light weight, once you're familiar with it you can put it up pretty quickly, it's fairly stable and surprisingly roomy inside. However, it isn't that high, there's only enough of a porch to keep your boots in, not your bag and the two short built in poles at the back to give you a bit of extra room are a bit fiddley to get pitched right. I haven't really had chance to test it in any extreme weather yet.

Vango do have a fairly good reputation as far as i know, and those style of hoop "tunnel" tents are pretty good providing you use the guy ropes thoroughly. We have used very similar style tents for the scout group I help out with for a few years now. It does help if you have more than one of you putting them up though!
