Hi all,

just moved into my new flat and the living is not the big. I need 2 speaker stands for my rear speakers of my 5.1 system, they are not very big (have the pioneer xbox 360 5.1 system) and as I don't have much space I would want the foot print of the stand to be as small as possible. Preferably around a meter in height.

Any recommendations?

Are you any good at glueing mdf?

B&q have wood offcut bins and you should be able to pick up enough wood to make simple stands for under a fiver. A rattle can of paint from wilko's for £3.50 and you'll have a solid, sturdy pair of stands for little effort and very little money.

Looks like Ikea has stopped selling the speakers stands I was refering to. They were part of the JUTIS range, but it's no longer listed on IKEA's website.

There's some on the 'bay. Look up item number 290453347276. If they don't float your boat then have a look for Alphason RS10

These are the ones i did with the same method. I work there so got the bits for free but he said he'd only charge a fiver for that lot anyway. Used 4 strips of 18mm mdf for the main section, glued together in in a box shape so the centre is hollow, one 18mm mdf piece for the tops and two 18mm mdf pieces glued together for the base.

Took about 30 minutes to assemble them, left them overnight to dry then sprayed them the next day. Just need to sort spikes out now for the final touches.

I DIY most of my gear to be honest, the AV stand, rear stands, the sub etc.
