i have just put together a cheapish system (specs below) and i have no games just wondering what would it play (HL2, farcry etc.)

Athlon 64 X2 3800+
2gb ddr2 3200 ram
160gb sata hd
256mb radeon x1300 pro or 256mb 9800pro (which is better?)

and the rest is just dvd rw etc.

any ideas what this would run.

That should run HL2 pretty easily, considering I could run it on decentish settings with my 9600 Pro and Athlon XP 2500+ in DX9 mode. Farcry easily as well. No chance of getting Oblivion on it though, that's for sure unless you enjoy only being able to see a few metres ahead. BF2 would run pretty decently on that rig on Low-Medium settings though.

Out of the 2 cards I think the 9800 Pro would be slightly better, but it would have course be a lot better if you could stretch to a 7600 or even 7300, both of which would pwn those two cards.

Dude thats better than my system and I play BF2 + Special Forces and Company of Heroes (Amazing Game).

You should be able to play lots with that setup.

The only thing really holding that system back would be the graphics card, but Half-Life 2 should run pretty sweet on that system, farcry again, should be fine.

Have a download of the demos for the games, and you'll have a good idea what they'll run like before you go out and buy them.

If you've not bought the card yet, or have not done this yet, have a check of the graphics card forum and see what your best choice would be within budget, a second hand card might also be worth a look as you'd get a lot better card probably.

What sort of game are you after? All out action, something that you can dip into or something you need to learn.

Do you want an online game with an active community that you can spend hours and hours on, or do you want a quick blast of intense, immersive, cinematic action.

There's something for everyone, but very few games for anyone, if that makes sense :)

Better than my pc, got a 9800 and Oblivion ran fine for me. Wasn't amazing graphically but had decent draw distance

i have both cards one is a his excaliber 9800pro and one is a pci express x1300 256mb. which one would be better can't be bothered to shell out on a new graphics card just yet.
