Hi there,
I'm after a new USB 2/3 powered hub.
Preferably one with a few ports on the back for permanent items, and some ports on the front for removable items.
I have a current hub like that, but for some reason the PSU doesn't seem to supply any juice any more... worse, if I leave the PSU connected, the red LED comes on suggesting that it's powered up, even if it's not connected to the mains... it seems to draw its power from the USB port too!
Anyway, after having searched around for trustworthy sounding brands, such as D-Link as an example, there are always customer reviews for the ports I've looked at, suggesting they have compatibility issues, or that the PSUs fail after a short time, or other issues.
I have an external USB Bluray Writer, and this needs quite a lot of juice. In fact I have problems powering it from my main PC, maybe because I have quite a few USB devices connected.
So I'd like a new USB hub, so I can connect printer/scanner etc to a rear port, and connect other stuff around the front, and have enough juice to run my bluray burner reliably.
Can't seem to find many at OcUK at the moment, but if anybody can recommend a decent, reliable Powered USB hub, then I'd recommend it.
Minimum 480Mbps USB2, but I'd also consider a USB 3 powered hub as a bit of future proofing. Most important thing is that it'll power hungry devices and be reliable. If possible, I'd also appreciate being able to charge iPad/iPhone from it too.
Thanks,
Vin.
EDIT: In addition, my Bluray burner is one of those that has TWO USB connectors to provide enough juice to run, therefore I'd really like a USB hub that can power BOTH connectors, rather than have to have one powered by the PC, and one by the hub. I currently have one connector in a USB port in the top of my tower, and one connected to a main USB port in the rear, through an extension cable. If I try both connectors in adjacent ports, it isn't reliable and can cut out during usage. For some reason it seems to function fine in my cheapo Acer laptop in adjacent ports, though! :-/
