Just had a call off my uncle wanting me to get him a pc, he has just retired and is looking at learning how to use a pc. im at work in the min and cant really spend time to look at the products

he will want to browse the old www. and also do a little bit of photo work. he wont be gaming on the machine and i doubt he will play dvds on it as he has his nice new tv setup downstairs.

Everything needs to be included keyboard,mouse,monitor, OS etc.

Price wise i would image about £500 - £600

would like it quiet as possible and i might clock it for him and not tell him

This is arguably a bit overkill but would be a very decent system and could be overclocked if you wanted.

Integrated graphics would be more than adequate for his needs.

Stick with that cpu though, great dual core for the price.

Vista home basic is great to learn on, it also runs perfectly on 1gb of ram, could always pop another stick in at a later date.

A Widescreen display is a little ott but at that price why not!

A 160gb drive would be more than adequate.

Could build a system for around or even under £400 if you lower the spec a little.


Edit: but between £500 - £600 if that is what he has to spend semi-pro's list would make for a killer pc!

if i was to lose the OS because im sure i got one floating around the house somewhere, would it be worth putting a litle extra in to the machine or would semi pro's list without the OS be fine?

That was my fear really, for basic needs it is overkill but even a cheap(ish) PC like that is quite startling capable. This would equally be more than suitable for the tasks described, you may want a larger hard drive though. The 20" monitor is still in there because it is actually cheaper than a 19" version.
