Hi,

I am trying to quieten down my system and it seems my psu is now the loudest thing in my pc. Right now I have an Antec Earthwatts 500D. Which has a little 80mm fan which spins rather fast. I have already tried making a should for it so it doesn't suck in directly from the cpu, thus trying to keep it cooler inside the psu. Also I took the grill off so you don't get the sound of air going over it.

So really I have decided I am better to get myself a new psu. I don't really want to go spending loads otherwise I would get myself the Seasonic X-650. Now it seems my pc (e7200 and 4850) should pull about 200w in games. And with max efficiency being around the 50-70% load area means I am looking for a psu around the 300-400W area.

So what suggestions do people have?

So far I have picked out the following,

Seasonic S12II (not sure whether to go for 330 or 380w) (recently upgraded to 80+ bronze)
Be Quiet! L7 Pure Power 350W (80+)
Xigmatek NRP-PC402 400W (80+ bronze)

Does anyone have opinions on any of them?

You can't go far wrong with Seasonic. A lot of people recommend the Corsair CX 400W supplies though although I'm not sure how quiet they are when compared with others.

Some of the Corsair range are re-baged Seasonics but you will have to do some digging around to find out which ones are (the new Corsair Gold series look like re-badged Seasonics).

If you want to play it safe I to would also suggest getting a the Seasonic, I have an older Seasonic S-12 600Watt model from 2006 and it's as quiet as mouse even under load you won't be able to hear it over your CPU, case and video card fans.

The only problem is I haven't been able to find a review for the updated Seasonic so unsure whether they have altered how the fan spins up etc. Also one thing that did draw me to the Xigmatek was the combination of the bronze certification and the 140mm fan it has.
