Hey all,

I am going for a full wipe of my HD as there is a ton of virus's and god knows what else on there.

It's been a while since I last did a wipe and fresh install, but if I recall the steps are to change BIOS to boot from DISK then to format the drive and then re-install?!?!?!

However I am having a problem. My keyboard is non-responsive during the boot procress, so when the system asks me to press any key to boot from the CD........ I can't and it boots normaly from windows.

Any ideas how to fix this or to get around it?

Regards

Lee

ps. Apologies if this is the wrong forum. Really wasn't sure what catagory this fitted into.

*Edit*

Apologies for the demand on a quick response....... I'm just sitting here waiting to get cracking on what I know is a nightmare(time consuming) job.

Cheers

What USB ports you plugged into. Depending what motherboard you're using, if you're plugged into USB3, they dont pick up until Windows loads.

It's a USB one. I used to have the adaptors, but I have no idea where they are now.

Where in the BIOS do I find the legacy setting?

Regards

ps.... thanks for the incredibly speedy responses.

erm......... for the life of me I can not remember. Where can I get this information?

God...... It really is back to school for me on this. :(

Press either F2 or Del on startup to enter bios, find an option like USB keyboard or Legacy USB support and enable it.

Job done. Have fun.

Thanks for all your help chaps....

The re-install seems to have gone well.... just working on the drivers now.

A few more questions if anyone is free to assist.

I downloaded "Driver Manager", which has highlighted a number of drivers that are out of date. Listed below:

IDE
(2) intel(R) ICH9 2 port serial ata storage controller 2 - 2926
Standard Dual Channel PCI IDE controller

NETWORK ADAPTERS
Broadcom 802.11g network adapter
Realtek RTL8168/8111 Family PCI-E Gigabit ethernet NIC (NDIS 6.0)

SOUND
HIgh definition Audio

SYSTEM DEVICES
(2) Intel(R) G33/G31/P35 Express Chipset PCI Express Root Port - 29C1
(4) Intel (R) ICH9 Family PCI Express Root Port 1 - 2940
Intel(R) 82801 PCI Bridge - 244E

Are any of these vital to the running of my PC, if so, whcih ones? and any ideas on where to get the latest drivers?

I used the installation disk for the motherboard, but it's obviously quite old.

Also.... are programs like Driver Manager worth paying for?

Regards

Lee
